"First solo album in five years from Squeeze co-founder and songwriter... Already hailed as “superlative” (Mojo)... 20-date tour across April & May with Boo Hewerdine...

Stiff Records is proud to unveil 'The Last Temptation of Chris', the new album from one of the UK’s foremost singer / songwriters and Squeeze mainstay, Chris Difford.

Co-written and produced with another English master, Boo Hewerdine, this new album follows up Chris’ 2002 solo debut 'I Didn’t Get Where I Am', and contains 13 gems of biting wit, lyrical honesty and whimsy. Songs like 'Fat As A Fiddle' (also released 07 April as a digital single), 'My Mother’s Handbag' and 'Reverso' are very autobiographical, very personal, and very Chris Difford.

2007 was a busy period for Chris as Universal released 'Essential Squeeze' – a 20-track Best Of, with accompanying DVD. And the band's own Love Records released 'Five Live', documenting their summer tour across the US. The compilation brought many Squeeze fans out of the closet, including The View, Razorlight, Fountains of Wayne, Ron Sexsmith, and Kasabian."

Babble & Beat - Your new solo effort, ‘The Last Temptation of Chris’, is scheduled for release this April. Was the making of this album a journey of self therapy, or celebration rather?

Chris Difford - My new album, or recording, was a journey like most albums. It helps to write songs, it helps with the therapy bills...

Babble & Beat - What turned out to be the most difficult song to write on the album? Why?

Chris Difford - 'Reverso'. I had so many verses. It was 8 minutes long at one point, but it's all stitched together well, so to speak.

Babble & Beat - Do you have a major tour planned in support of ‘The Last Temptation of Chris’? If so, does it include the US?

Chris Difford - I do have some dates in the UK and a few in the US, yet to be confirmed. I like to tour these days, it keeps the wolf from the door and it's nice to meet people.

Babble & Beat - Is there something about being on the road that you’re now sick to death of, but never dreamed you would be?

Chris Difford - No, I can't think of a thing. Maybe sticky carpets in club dressing rooms.

Babble & Beat - What is something you had missed about Glenn (Tilbrook) but hadn’t realized until you started playing together again in 2007 in support of the Squeeze back catalogue?

Chris Difford - Glenn is a powerful person and I missed his cog in my wheel, the clock had stopped but now it's ticking once again.

Babble & Beat - Can you describe a time or two, that wouldn’t be obvious to everyone, where you became abundantly aware that your music (band or solo) influenced someone else’s?

Chris Difford - I think when I first heard Blur and Crowded House, although it's in the ear of the beholder. It makes me proud.

Babble & Beat - What have been a couple of your proudest moments as a musician?

Chris Difford - Getting up this morning with a clear head, and playing at Madison Square Garden, it was such a blur.....but fun.

Babble & Beat - What have been a couple of your proudest moments as a man?

Chris Difford - Being a dad, and owning my own guitar.

Babble & Beat - As a musician who has already accomplished a great deal, what specific things do you currently feel an urgency to achieve in addition?

Chris Difford - Writing a book and being part of a musical... both are close to my heart and in sight.

Babble & Beat - That's exciting to hear!

Over the years, how often do you feel music reviews have gotten it spot-on?

Chris Difford - Most of the time, it's with their ears that our eyes are opened, reviews are like cracks in the pavement.

This is where we ask personal questions for the fans. Yeah, they're often stupid questions. We like reading the answers though!

Babble & Beat - What is your very favorite area of your home?

Chris Difford - Included is a picture of the bells in my house. The staff hate them!!!!

Babble & Beat - Thanks so much for sharing that with us!

What magazine subscription can’t you live without?

Chris Difford - I can live without them all.

Babble & Beat - You passed through Wisconsin last year, playing Shank Hall in Milwaukee. Outside of the show, what do you remember about Wisconsin?

Chris Difford - Too many things... the lake, the hotel with its silly atrium, the long drive after the show to NY, Spinal Tap.

Babble & Beat - Thank you Chris, your music has been an enjoyable part of my life for years!

Chris Difford - And thank you.
