Rock / Indie / Alternative
Band's official description:
"The States are a rock band. Yes, they happen to be a trio. Yes, they all happen to live in Brooklyn. But god help me if that makes them "another indie rock trio from Brooklyn." Check your irony at the door...this is intelligent, idealistic, ambitious rock, with enough power and sweat to fill an arena. These guys are out to convert the world one fan at a time, and if they have any say in the matter, you're next on their list."
‘100 Years War’ is an astonishing and powerful track that is a little reminiscent of early U2. Just as good, if not better, than a lot of songs I currently hear on the good radio stations.
‘Ghost’ – “The television’s talking in the background. The volume of the world is set on too loud. And I don’t remember the last time I felt so old.” There’s just a little pinch of The Bravery in this song.
‘Bad Magnets’ is a bit more emotionally motivated. This especially comes across in the vocals. A great modern rock ’n roll single and a definite climax on this cd.
‘Diplomats’ – A finely crafted song that we can all relate to. “Don’t walk away. We’ve only begun to talk and we’ll lose connection. Don’t walk away before I can say what’s wrong; we’ve lost direction. A map is a lie, but it whispers the truth quietly in your ear.”
‘So Near’ is a stunning piece of work! It’s deliciously lush …like the best of Coldplay songs. The vocals are positively handsome here.
‘Right As Rain’ - I am finding that this band has many sounds and they all work. Oh, and I’m already trying to sing this song - despite this being the first time I’ve heard it.
‘Inquisition’ – Love and loss. Is it ever worth the pain? Yes it is. Not to mention, it inspires wonderful songs like this one.
‘X Not /’ – Another new favorite of mine! “Tell me what lights you up. Cause it feels like you’re giving out. You can calculate all you want. You won’t fix anything. Are there things that you wish you’d done? Well you can give them to the setting sun.”
