Rock / Folk / _____ (always leave it open!)
Rohan’s ‘The Discources’ consists of 2 parts: one cd named ‘Receptive, the other ‘Creative’.
‘The Discources’ are packed to the gills with countless brilliant songs that showcase Rohan’s fantastic sense of humor, complete honesty, and musicianship! Rohan has lots of soul and is wise beyond his years. He also is a bit of a vagabond musician – meaning, don’t count on him settling too comfortably into one genre. Rock, punk, folk, acoustic, experimental, rockabilly,... what will he master next? It’s exciting for me to contemplate!
Another way that Rohan is unique (and super cool!) is that he offers his music as FREE downloads. Yes, really. How can you not make a copy for yourself? You’ve nothing to lose, accept the need for other cds in your stereo.
Creative’s (Part 1) Biggest Highlights:
‘Chinese Jeans’ – "I tried but I couldn't walk past, that cute little Chinese ass. I've seen them before in my dreams, those cute little Chinese jeans."
A smile instantly appeared on my face! An amazingly contagious and upbeat song - I will be surprised if it doesn’t become a favorite of yours. In addition, there’s a little Rockabilly flavoring here (and how can that be bad?)!
‘The Product’ – For some reason I imagined the Psychedelic Furs (earlier PF) playing with Rohan on this one. Lovely melodies!
‘Wine Is Shared’ – How old is Rohan again? He’s an old soul for sure:
“A fig tree will grow figs, you'll kiss me again. I'm stiff as a board you know I'll not bend. My opinions are real where as your perceptions are not. With what I have I can deal and I quite like what I've not got.”
Also, 3/4 into the song I heard a fierce wind of Social Distortion come and go... and it was great!
‘Dancing Child’, ‘Never Forget’, ‘Ring Finger’, and ‘Special Times’ are other favorites of mine on part 1.
Receptive’s (Part 2) Biggest Highlights:
‘All You People’ starts out, “So fuck all you people making love tonight.” Here’s some of that humor and honesty I was talking about!
‘Dressing To Impress’ – “You never told me that one of your hobbies was standing at the window naked,...”
Oh, the excitement and sweetness of first love and the loss of innocence! I love the guitar strumming on this one!
‘Selling Up’ – It wasn’t an easy choice by any means but I have determined it’s my favorite song on this disc – at least for today!
‘Add Us’ – Imagine listening to a song whilst inside of a tornado. I wonder if the tune is about MySpace. “Were a little band and a little new, coming out of California. If you like this band you might like us too. Add us, add us, add us, add us…”
‘Last Tango In Lismore’, ‘Coming To A Head’, ‘Fireman’, and ‘Dinner’ are fantastic tracks as well!
