Blues

‘02/01/1978’ is Kris Dollimore’s debut solo effort – and it is magnificent! Kris was a founding member of The Godfathers, has worked with Adam Ant, The Damned, Del Amitri, Stiv Bators and many other respected musicians. However, Kris proves with ‘02/01/1978’ that he doesn’t belong in the background but rather front center.

Kris wrote the majority of the songs on this release but there are a few tributes. He does an amazing version of the classic John Lee Hooker tune ‘Groundhog’. We also love his ultra-cool take on Iggy and The Stooges’ ‘TV Eye’! Noteworthy interpretations of Reverend Robert Wilkins’ ‘Rollin Stone’ and Stuart Turner’s ‘The North Kent Post Industrial Hillstomp Blues’ are featured as well.

As far as originals go, there are many that shine. ‘Take What’s Mine’ is probably our favorite track, with its infectious chorus line and thump. "Gotta kiss goodbye to that cryin’ sky, chase the reaper through the meadows ‘til it’s time to die, tooth for a tooth, eye for an eye, gonna take what’s mine, gonna take what’s mine."

‘Brother Ray’ is another catchy, gritty track. It’s not a nod to Ray Charles. It was written about the drug-related death of a dear friend.

‘The Enemy’ showcases the fantastic guitar work we expected! It’s another definite highlight.

‘Cry For Me’ is a clean blues track that has a modern-mixed-with-nostalgic feel to it.

‘Miss Emma Jane’ – Emotion oozes out of Kris on this warm and traditional sounding track. You’d swear the instruments have blood running through their veins too on this one.

There are originals on here that have all the makings needed to become classics! Being longtime fans of Kris’ work, and several of the musicians / bands he’s worked with over the years, we’re very excited about this latest accomplishment and wouldn’t be a bit surprised if Kris Dollimore becomes a household name one day.
