Venue: The Mean Fiddler, 165 Charing Cross Road, London. Just a few
steps south of the Tottenham Court Road Tuber Stop and just 2 doors
north of the famous Astoria Theatre.
Large, Rock venue, lots of black, good bar in the rear of the main
floor, large raised stage, good sound system, upstairs balcony area,
capacity 600+.
The Evening's Vibe: The main act was Laibach so the crowd was a
mixture of Gothic, politicos, rockers, as well as dance music fans.
Client's Show: There was a crowd near the front of the raised stage
waiting for Client to appear and when they did, there was a strong
response. Client's stage set is very minimal - Bass Player to stage right /
Lead Singer center stage / Synth Player and Singer stage left.
No backlines amps, etc., so it was very minimalistic and appropriate for
Client's music.
All the members of Client wore their Couture-inspired black dresses (no pants!) and looked
stunning... hair and makeup perfect, just like their press photos.
From the first song, there was a problem with the lead singer's
microphone and loud 'pops' interrupted her vocals. This problem persisted on
and off throughout their entire set, even with a soundman rushing up
and changing cords. The highlights of their set were 'Underground' and
'Zerox Machine' and were played and sung perfectly.
Client tours constantly on the European continent - Germany/Italy/etc.,
and their professionalism was evident, despite the sound problems.
There were no tantrums or diva moments and they just kept the music
going.
I was very fortunate to meet them after the show in the VIP area and
they were very nice and excited about just signing a new deal with
Metropolis Records - which should have them coming to the U.S. in early 2007.
