9.28.07 FEEDING FINGERS

New Wave / Indie / Gothic

"They are a three piece goth / new-wave / darkwave group whose work is reminiscent of early Cure, Depeche Mode, Church, Cocteau Twins, etc. with their often minimalist and hypnotic percussive elements... droning yet fluid and dynamic bass structures... heavily sustained guitar work... bizarre dream-inspired lyrics... ("today I found an animal's mouth in a bag of broken hands..."). They have a definite appeal to those who crave an element of dark surrealism in their music." - Official website

Feeding Fingers isn't complicated music but it gives us that dim, melancholy feeling our inner '80s teenagers desire. Favorites are 'Manufactured Missing' and 'I Can't Breath'. 'Mimes Come To Say...' and 'Baby Teeth' may take more than one listen but you'll come to like them too.

9.27.07 DEVENDRA BANHART

Folk / Indie

Official message: "The latest album by Devendra Banhart available now worldwide! Written and recorded at his home in Topanga, Los Angeles, throughout the Spring of 2007 with friends and long-standing collaborators, 'Smokey Rolls Down Thunder Canyon' bears all the markings of a nocturnal album.

Performances evoke hushed twilight atmospherics and boisterous late-night partying; vocals are noticeably more intricate and ambitious; instrumentals comfortably loose." - XL Recordings

Favorite tracks on this new release are the enchanting, soothing & nostalgic-sounding 'Cristobal', 'So Long Old Bean', 'Samba Vexillographica', 'Tonada Yanomaninista' and 'Bad Girl'.

9.26.07 DELORENTOS

Indie / Alternative / Zouk

"The band drifted together in the usual fashion... inspired by boredom, creative energy, and a passion for music - obvious reference points are Pixies, The Cure, The Clash and Arcade Fire; more oblique influences slide in from most genres of music and virtually every decade from the 50s onwards." - Official website

Well, we love Ireland's Delorentos! Their recent album, 'In Love With Detail' (Cottage) has some amazing tracks on it, like 'Stop', 'Eustace Street, and 'Any Other Way'. Check them out now:

9.26.07 KEN

Indie / Alternative / Other

Official news: "Well, we´ve finished the writing process on the 'Blackmail' record now. We´ll record the whole stuff in October and will release the record hopefully in March. Which is good for 'Blackmail', but not so good for little Ken...

The ('Bad Toulouse') record is nearly done, but we can´t release it until September 2008. Maybe later. We´re thinking about giving you this record as it is (rough and unmixed) for free and start another, 'cuz we´re already sick of the songs on this one. We´ll talk to the label and lawyers and the rest and let you know. Maybe as a christmas present. ;) All the Best." - KEN

9.26.07 KNIGHTS IN PARIS PONDER NIRVANA

Indie / Powerpop / Electronica

Official message: "So, tonight I was driving home and something came over me that made me decide to listen to Nirvana's 'Nevermind'. Although many of the songs from the album have been overplayed an infinite amount of times on radio stations (many of which I don't listen to anymore), I felt the urge to give it a full listen again. The last time I probably listened to this album straight through was over 8 years ago I can only fathom.

Anyway, in doing so, I tried to take an outsiders perspective and pretend like I hadn't heard the album before. Being that it has been so long, it actually was a bit fresh to my ears. But all I could think about was how was this album so great? How did this album / this band pave such a large path for others? It really is undoubtedly a solid album. Like many others of around its time, it contained substance musically, as well as an apparent message lyrically. There was angst, there was heart, and attitude. Maybe these were some of the qualities that really made it stand out? Maybe it was a little bit of a lot of a different things..." - Mike (Knights In Paris)

9.25.07 PERFORMANCE

Electro / Alternative / Pop

"(We are) Performance. Crucially, we are not diamond wankers. We’re musicians. We met in Manchester three years ago. We wrote our album in Ancoats, East Manchester, in an old cotton mill. Out the window, the new Manchester got closer and closer to us. We watched as the reflective architecture, the penthouses and the sickly bars, began to surround us. We have played our instruments and we have made young sounds." - Official website

We've heard some fantastic tracks off of their 2007 release, 'We Are Performance'. We recommend checking out the tracks 'Rome', 'Short Sharp Shock', and 'Surrender'. Listen here: www.myspace.com/weareperformance.

9.25.07 LUST MURDER bOX

Electronica / Industrial / Goth

"LUST MURDER bOX have debuted a self-titled release and the buzz surrounding the group continues to escalate to a dull roar. With an eye on touring both coasts, the band's inertia continues with new songs and more recordings in the near future." - Official website

We love their songs 'Device', 'Lesser of Two', and 'MPH' . Check them out by visiting www.myspace.com/lustmurderbox.

9.21.07 EMMA POLLOCK

Alternative / Showtunes / Melodramatic Popular Song

"Former Delgados member. Signed to 4AD Records as a solo artist in June 2005 after having major panic attack about what to do after band split. It was either that or bugger off out of the music industry altogether and go and find work that I would probably walk out of within a month." - Official website

Well, Emma Pollock's debut album, 'Watch The Fireworks', is out now. We highly recommend the songs 'Acid Test' and 'Adrenaline'. Visit www.myspace.com/emmapollock for music clips and more info.

9.21.07 RHINO'S HEAVY METAL BOX SET

Official message: "Headbangers rejoice - Rhino's finally come up with a definitive 4-CD musical survey for you! The Heavy Metal Box gathers 70 choice selections tracing the evolution of metal during its first golden age between 1968 and 1991.

Among the more than five hours of fist-pumping favorites are signature songs from Blue Cheer, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Iron Maiden, Ted Nugent, Judas Priest, Motorhead, Dokken, Scorpions, Quiet Riot, Metallica, Pantera, Slayer, and many, many more.

From prog metal to speed metal to hair metal to death metal, this collection has it all and then some. In addition to the usual meticulous liner notes, artist tributes, and rare photos, Rhino's design team went balls-to-the-wall on this set, housing it in limited edition packaging that resembles an amplifier (with a turn-able Marshall knob that goes to 11, of course)."

9.20.07 THE MODELS HAVE A TOUGH TIME ON THE ROAD

Rock / Pop Punk / Indie

Official news: "End of tour. It's sad. But we're staying in NYC for another week! Playing two shows and we're in desperate need to do some major shopping!

The tour started in chaos. Lou Ricca, the man that invited us to the US, didn't keep his part of the agreement. He lied about venues, money, housing, transportations... everything. But all the bands helped out and thanks to Vic and Jeri the tour could keep on going anyway. Inspite of Louis roadblocks...

He was totally unorganised and couldn't keep a group together. He disrespected the women on the tour. He threatened to fire all the bands when they confronted him with any questions about the tour. The only thing he did good was to bring us all together! As soon as he left the tour everything started to work out just fine!"

Have you listened to The Models before? We love their songs, 'Nightlife' and 'Action Baby'! Check out these songs now (and partake in free downloads too!) by visiting www.myspace.com/themodelsband.

9.18.07 GERMANY'S TYSKE LUDDER

Electro / Industrial / Gothic

Official message: "Our number of the month is the 27,000, cause now the Tyske Ludder MySpace site has more "friends" and "fans" than the hometown of the Ludder has citizens. ;-)

Furthermore, we have to tell you that our live drummer Noel has left the band after nearly 12 month and will not be longer part of the live-crew. He based his decision on his removal to Berlin and his musical reorientation.

We thank Noel for a great time and wish him all the best for his personal future!!!!"

9.18.07 MANDELA - NO SIMPLE MIND

Rock / New Wave / Classic Rock

Jim Kerr of Simple Minds shares his thoughts on Nelson Mandela's recent visit to London:

"What satisfaction it brought just a couple of weeks ago when Nelson Mandela visited the centre of London to witness the unveiling of a proud statue commissioned in his honour.

Mandela, of course, in the eyes of the world, is viewed as the flesh and blood symbol of the victorious struggle that generations of black South Africans endured under apartheid, a system that considered them inferior as humans and therefore not worthy of the most fundamental rights.

In some ways it is a genuinely different world from the world in which Simple Minds were approached in the Spring of 1988 to take part in a June Wembley concert. A concert with a difference - it would celebrate the 60th birthday of the jailed ANC leader, while simultaneously calling out for concentrated international pressure from various governments to enforce the then all-white government of South Africa to end the shameful policy of apartheid..."

9.17.07 KISSKILL DESTROYER

Indie / Rock / New Wave

"Kisskill Destroyer is a dark, diverse, atmospheric and loud, two-piece rock band. The band's sonic and visual diversity affords them the luxury to transcend genres at any given moment and the confusion this creates is what they thrive on. Using live instrumentation with pre-recorded beats, ranging from the danceable to the repetitve primal sexual; Kisskill Destroyer combine volume, power and seduction with hypnotic visuals, which inflict a memorable orgasm of sensory overload." - Official website

We totally dig their songs, 'Fashion Trend Inter.' and 'Disco Bloodbath'. Visit www.myspace.com/kisskilldestroyer to listen to them now.

9.17.07 MINSK

Industrial / Metal / Psychedelic

"Scattered between the sleepy city of Peoria and metropolis of Chicago, Illinois, and drawing inspiration from a remote Belarusian city that has been burned to the ground only to be rebuilt like a phoenix rising from its own ashes, Minsk is an enigmatic collection of opposites.

The music is at once modern, organic, and other-worldly; songs are stirring sonic journeys channeling the rhythms of the earth and the resonance of the human voice with the synthetic sounds of machines, amplifiers, chaos, and effects." - Official website

We like their chaotic energy on 'White Wings' & the haunting calm of 'Embers' - both off of their 2007 release, 'The Ritual Fires of Abandonment'. Visit www.myspace.com/minsk to check out these songs.

9.17.07 BALAAM & THE ANGEL

9.14.07 SEDUCED BY SUICIDE WE ARE

Gothic / Rock / Glam

"Seduced by Suicide, Ultra-Romanthic Rock band, was created by Earth at the end of 2004 with the idea of bringing together melancholic themes and the energy of rock along with lyrics that relate from extreme feelings to the fetish for death." - Official website

We highly recommend checking out their songs, 'My Sweetest Choice' and 'Our Gothic Dream'. They also do a lovely, and tranquil, take on KISS' 'I Was Made For Loving You'. Here these songs now by visiting www.myspace.com/seducedbysuicide.

9.14.07 COLLECTIVE SOUL

Rock / Classic Rock / Pop

Official message: "Man, what a cool couple of weeks since our release. It feels good to be loved. Thanks to everyone for supporting this band, we are so appreciative. Something to remember when you’re purchasing our new recording is not only are you giving love to Collective Soul but you are helping to change the music industry. It’s so liberating to be an INDEPENDENT band and be Top 5 on iTunes. We would have been #25 on Billboard’s Top 200 if they would have let us report but because we think outside the box, make our own rules and are only sold at Target and iTunes we’re on the Comprehensive Chart instead. Go figure!

Anyway on tour next week with Live and Emerson Hart (who, by the way made an incredible record – go get it). Come see us out on the road and let’s have fun! Thanks again and may peace be with you!" - Ed

9.12.07 DRUKORE

Drum & Bass / Industrial / Metal

"Drukore aka Andru Brozovich, wants to scare you. Not out of some trend, but with a blunt onslaught of electronic fury from the depths of a frantic Gemini mind. Coming from a pure industrial metal background, Drukore combines harsh Drum N Bass with gash-like editing in a hurricane of speed metal energy. Listen at your own risk..." - Official website

9.11.07 HENRY ROLLINS TOUR

Official news: "I have a bunch of speaking dates lined up for North America starting Friday, September 14th and ending November 10th...

The name of the tour is "Provoked". Why did I use that word to name the tour? For the sake of ad mats and all, these tours have to be called something so I thought of what my state of mind is at this time and "Provoked" fits very well. I do a lot of " in what I say. I don’t agree at all. We are in a war in Iraq that has at best, questionable origins, we watch elected officials lie under oath, (I could go on and on) and I’m provocative? Little old me? I think not. I am, however, quite provoked. To be succinct, they have gotten my attention." - Henry Rollins

9.11.07 GOLDEN BEAR

Rock / Indie / Americana

Partial official message: "I just want to thank all of our supporters, friends, families, loved ones, and those who have been there for us over these past few years. It has meant a lot." - Grizzle

Austin's Golden Bear is a band we've been playing a lot of lately. They have a decent following and loads of great reviews... but there are far too many people who are still unfamiliar with them.

So, by visiting www.myspace.com/goldenbear you can listen to fantastic tracks like, 'Ten Thousand Orchestras', 'Darkness Sets In' and 'Santa Rose'. By the way, a couple of their tunes are currently offered as free downloads.

9.10.07 OUR BABBLE

Why, Lord, why? Why did I force myself to watch the 2007 VMAs on MTV? Well, because I feel like it's my duty to keep updated. After all, I run a music magazine. Honestly, it gets worse every dang year and I don't even know where to begin with all of my negative feelings about the hideous joke that it is.

I finally got around to seeing the movie Number 23 (Joel Schumacher film). I had heard so many bad reviews of it, yet, I couldn't have enjoyed it more. During the movie I freaked myself out when I realized that my birthday adds up to 23. April 02, 1970 (month=4 + 2 + 1 + 9 + 7 + 0... 23!!). Trying not to give it any more thought.

Shame on Taco Bell for trying to make us Americans think we need a 4th feast each day. I'll admit, a genius money-making move, this "Fourth Meal" thing, but they still should feel a bit ashamed.

I am currently working on an interview for Mike Scott of The Waterboys. So excited! - Stacy

9.10.07 NEW LOUIS XIV

Blues / Rock / Indie

9.10.07 SUPER FURRY ANIMALS

Indie / Experimental / Psychedelic

Super Furry Animals 'Hey Venus!' (Rough Trade):

Official news: "Eight albums deep and the Super Furries still know how to bring it. From the rousing, Spector-lite 'Run Away' to the ethereal moonbeam that is 'Carbon Dating' (a personal favorite), the band has said in their own words that "'Hey Venus!' is a collection of 12 autonomous songs ranging in styles from country and contemporary rock music to orchestral psychedelic pop."

Quite sensibly for a SFA project, we're doing something a bit different and releasing 'Hey Venus!' digitally now, and then following with a physical, expanded CD in January when the band is on tour in the United States.

Get it right now @ www.beggarsgroupusa.com." - Beggars Group

9.6.07 LONDON'S SHUSH

Rock / Pop

"Shush are a female fronted four piece rock band based in London. Hailing from Argentina, Italy and the UK they are quickly making a name for themselves on the London circuit being a superb live act truly to be reckoned with." - Official website

So far we've only heard a few of their songs. We really like 'Pretty Things' and 'XXX'. 'Stay' is good but more suited for mainstream radio.

9.5.07 NEW MODEL ARMY - FORCED TO CANCEL U.S. TOUR

Partial official message: "Visas denied. New Model Army's North American tour canceled. We are sorry to deliver this bad news...

We have regrettably been forced to cancel the North American tour that was due to start this week. The US Citizenship and Immigration Service have denied the visas that the band require to travel to the USA and so until this matter is resolved all shows are on hold.

The band and management are extremely disappointed by this result as the tour was destined to be one of the greats. The new album is out, there is media attention in every city and the expectations are (were) high from the thousands of fans who had bought advance tickets.

The dates will be re-booked once the Immigration situation is resolved. In the meantime, ticket refunds are available from the point of purchase."

9.5.07 SINES

Indie / Pop / Rock

Not that much is known about this unsigned band from the UK. We sure like them though! Pop over to the Sines' MySpace and check out their songs 'Clint' and 'Tides' by visiting www.myspace.com/musicbysines.

9.5.07 INTERPOL'S MAMMOTH

Official message: "We're pleased to announce the release of our new UK single, 'Mammoth' and the start of our US fall tour!

According to Lucero's official website, "They're a band that has been tagged as alt-country and punk country. They're a band that has written plenty of songs about girls and guitars, and about life, love, drinking, and life, love, and drinking while on the road."

Their most recent new full-length album, 'Rebels, Rogues and Sworn Brothers', was released last year but we finally got to hear it. If you are unfamiliar with them, please take a moment to check out a great track from the album, 'What Else Would You Have Me Be', by visiting www.myspace.com/lucero.

There are moments when we think their sound is a bit Cracker meets Bruce Springsteen.

9.24.07 Outbred Inlaws:

Punk / Country

Playing Outbred Inlaws will either make the party, or ruin it, depending on the type of party you're having!

Songs like 'My Bike' and 'Point Zero Eight' are simplistic but good, where 'Saw You' makes you feel sad and amused at the same time. There's some trashiness and comedy in this black-sheep-hillbilly rock 'n roll.

Wanna watch a heaping load of steamy peanut-filled bullshitt?

Watch Seconds From Disaster all the way through.

Wow... It's almost like the only people they could be fooling at this point would HAVE to been born fucking yesterday. I am truly fucking amazed at the sheer quantities of walking dead "CONSUMERS?" we have roaming around aimlessly on this (universally) forsaken and human-infected earth.

Just a flash in the Peter, pan. All we are... just a fucking blip on the universe's radar screen, but GOD will save us. The great father in the sky. Hello, this is your real daddy! WHOOO’S YO DADDY!!! I’m yer huckleberry... white hair and a beard, he has, so they say... fuckin' yay!

If the "infection" of knowledge doesn't kill you, in its agonizing promise, please recognize at the very least our mini-glimmer of a glint on this ball, and make the best of it, my friends. Sorry Maynard, we're not eternal, and this pain ain't an illusion.

All we're doin' is breedin'. The rest is just fodder. Reason is giving reason for living. Do something right for a change, stop reading this bullshit. Go fuck somebody.

9.12.07 Finn Riggins, ( ):

Experimental / Indie / Post punk

Unusual as it is, the correct band name is indeed Finn Riggins, ( ).

In regards to their song, 'Mahoney', one must wrap their head around it a few times first but nevertheless, it is interesting, different and eventually becomes pleasing.

'Wurlitz' is catchy and 'The Plumest' threw us off at first but we ended up liking it a lot.

       ADAM & THE ANTS
    Dirk Wears White Sox

Rock / Experimental / Other

Adam & The Ants were fucking brilliant, that's what they were. 'Dirk Wears White Sox' was originally released in 1979. In 2004 a digitally remastered version came out with bonus tracks.

It's hard to choose the best, 'Cartrouble part 1' or 'Cartrouble part 2'?

There are so many incredible tracks on this release! For instance, 'Nine Plan Failed', 'Cleopatra', 'Animals and Men', 'Family of Noise', 'The Idea',... but my ultimate favorites are 'Tabletalk', 'Never Trust a Man (With Egg on His Face)' and 'Whip in My Valise'!

It's impossible to go wrong with this release.
