9.30.06 THE FUTUREHEADS CANCEL FUTURE

Alternative / Indie / Rock

Official message: "Hi Guys, It is with great sadness that I must tell you we have had to cancel our forthcoming US Tour, due to the development of Tendonitis in Barry's left wrist. He has been advised to rest and, as far as we can see, there is no way of us being able to make those shows work, given the state of his wrist.

We are all deeply disappointed at having to pull the shows at such a late stage, but there is no way around it for us. Apologies to the people with tickets - we promise to get out to the US at the next available opportunity. The UK tour will not be affected by this given that there are some months before it begins.

Again, we are deeply sorry, but I guess we have to focus on Barry making progress toward recovery, and only rest will enable that." Thanks for your understanding, Ross (The Futureheads)

9.30.06 GUSTER & CURB YOUR ENTHUSIASM

Official message: "Gusterrhoids... Here's the deal with the "collaboration" between Curb Your Enthusiasm (the show) and Guster I hinted at a few weeks ago: It's not a Season Six band cameo on the show. I wish. But it's the next best thing, a five-episode podcast of a long, winding conversation between two Guster members (the singer and the drummer) and our friend Jeff Garlin, who plays Larry's agent on the show.

If you have people in your life who like Curb Your Enthusiasm but don't know Guster, this is your chance to get them hooked on our.... conversational.. skills? Having befriended Jeff at our Central Park show two years ago, we thought a mutual podcast would be interesting since we like his comedy and he likes our music. Around the time we were finishing up 'Ganging Up on the Sun' we actually went into the studio with Jeff and recorded it. A lot of topics get covered since it's almost an hour long. This might be the deepest Guster interview to date. Don't fear the podcast.

A ten-minute episode will become available, for free, every Monday in October, on our website and through iTunes. I am told there are five mondays in October this year."

9.29.06 JOEY ALTRUDA ON JOE STRUMMER

Lounge / Latin / Ska

Official message: "I was recently interviewed by Julien Temple here in Los Angeles as part of his upcoming documentary on Joe Strummer. Temple interviewed friends, family, and colleagues of Strummer in front of a campfire setting in London, New York, and Los Angeles.

It was very touching for me to be asked for I never had a chance to say goodbye to Joe. We had a strong bond as friends, sharing a love of the same styles of music (especially Cuban & Columbian) as well as Americana, film history, vintage Cadillacs, etc. In fact, his green 1955 Caddy Coupe Deville was brought to the location of the shooting in Griffith Park as part of the set decor. I had no idea but someone here has been taking care of it for all these years!

There was a very cool impromptu jam session around the campfire as well that I was fortunate enough to take part in, featuring Joe Ely, Zander Schloss, et al.

9.29.06 THE SCARRING PARTY

Partial official description: "Milwaukee quintet the Scarring Party perform tuba, accordion and banjo driven end time music that draws on the influence of 20s and 30s music hall, Lomax folkways recordings and 70s punk.

Though the Scarring Party performances combine low-key showmanship with vaudevillian spectacle, the more confounding part of their aesthetic is the role of toy piano, typewriters, 40lb cast iron bells, the theremin-howl of mandolins, a host of James Burzelic's unorthodox percussion instruments and Daniel Bullock's warbling tenor delivered through the crackling victrola veneer of a hand-built copper microphone. While their sound and aesthetic may recall an age gone by, the Scarring Party's unique voice rests comfortably outside of the confines of any era."

We really couldn't say it any better (the above taken from their main website). We absolutely love their sound and we haven't heard anything quite like it! Their 2006 release is called 'A Consise Introduction'. Please give a listen to their songs 'Eye', 'Devil Knows Where', and 'No More Room'.

9.29.06 THE STREETS UPDATES

Rap / Garage / Electronica

Official message: "I am pleased to announce that due to many complaints and a certification of ill road worthiness Ted Mayhem (Mayhem is Mike Skinner's partner in his record label The Beats.) has decided to trade in the hearse for something more suitable for his travel requirements and which more aptly reflects his family roots in the service quarter of colonial Great Britain...

On another note thanks to everyone for buying my new single 'Prangin Out'. Its current midweek position as having a strong lead over the Scissor Sisters for number 1 is making us very emotional. My vote is on Gordon Brown for president. His speech was the best the Conservative party have sounded in years..."

9.28.06 BABBLE & BEAT UPDATES

Looks like we'll have a new contributing reviewer from time to time... soon. He'll probably focus on Punk, Rock, & Metal cd reviews. He knows his stuff and he'll sure be welcome because I've defintely been doing all the work around here. Where the heck is everybody?

I went to the Melvins / Ghostigital / Big Business show last night at Shank Hall in Milwaukee, WI. It was great! I interviewed Ghostigital. BTW - Ghostigital features Einar from the Sugarcubes! So, watch for that next week.

Many of you are asking where my "3 Days With Gene Loves Jezebel" story is. Well, I'm not a good writer and I love details. I stopped writing it because it's already 13 pages long! I really have to dissect it. So, maybe one day. Also, Michael Aston (of GLJ) released an album cover idea for their next release. He used the painting I acquired from him for it! Prior to that he asked me if that was cool (and I was like, YES!!!). I hope he really ends up using that image!

9.28.06 NEW TERRORFAKT

Industrial / Experimental

Official description: "Crunchy, harsh, trance, rhythmic, noise, acidic, violent and unavoidable are all words that have been used to describe the music of Terrorfakt.

The NYC based artist has been grafting infectious and innovative power noise trance since 2001. Their corrosive music has re-invented and infused the noise and trance genres of electronic music with fresh ideas and influences.

Their second album on Metropolis, 'Teethgrinder', is a myriad of torment, anger, confusion, hatred and pain. Agressive is too mild of a word to describe the pummeling beats, explosive rhythms, critical state melodies and self-destructive tempo. With the most raging album you'll hear this year, Terorfakt has reached unprecedented levels with the seething 'Teethgrinder'." - Metropolis

9.27.06 H.I.M. CANCELS TOUR

Rock / Metal / Gothic

Official message: "HIM have announced the cancellation of their fall tour. The band will not be playing scheduled U.S. shows in favor of entering the recording studio (see canceled dates below).

HIM hope fans will not be let down, but rather will look forward to seeing them back on the road with new songs to share. The band have been steadily writing material for their forthcoming album and are eager to start preliminary rehearsal of very early tracks. HIM have not been able to test any new material due to their busy touring and promotion schedule. This fall will be the first opportunity for the band members to talk and work out new HIM material for a 2007 release!

Singer Ville Valo explains the band's decision: "Our dearest fellowship of the Heartagram, you haven't seen the last of us yet. We just want to keep it fresh for you and stump you with new material. I didn't feel that I could do that without rehearsing some of this stuff that's stuck in my heart. We're happy to have new fans come aboard the ship, but I feel we've got to keep it exciting and new. We've started writing and I can't wait for you guys to hear what we're working on."

The band have spent the last year touring non-stop behind Dark Light. Most recently completing a successful spring U.S. headlining tour with stops at Jimmy Kimmel Live and Last Call With Carson Daly along the way.

To ticket holders: please contact or visit the point of purchase for information on ticket refunds."

9.27.06 HUNGRY LUCY UPDATES

Official message: "Hello again. Time for a quick update of the goings on in Hungry Lucy Land!

While our tour didn't go quite as planned, the dates we have played have been a blast. We've made a lot of new friends along the way and traveled to some new places ... all-in-all ... much fun indeed. Fabulous sushi and new friends in Florida, fabulous Mexican food and new friends in South Carolina, fabulous techincal problems all over ... and much, much more.

You can read all about the tour happenings (the good and the bad) on our BLOG: http://blog.hungrylucy.com/?cat=2 . There are just a couple more performances for 2006 and then we'll get stuck into what we do best (writing & recording)."

9.27.06 PAUL WESTERBERG (REPLACEMENTS) UPDATES

Official message: "The 'Open Season' soundtrack was released today, and while the release of (what is ostensibly) a new Paul Westerberg CD would normally be the lead story here, the news from the 'Open Season' premiere last night is just a bit more exciting.

Paul and Tommy reunited on stage for the first time in 15 years at last night's premiere, joined by Josh Freese on drums. They were scheduled to play 'Right To Arm Bears' and 'Love You In The Fall', the tracks from the soundtrack that both Tommy and Josh played on, but the audience also got treated to a rousing rendition of 'I.O.U.'.

You can read an account of the performance and see some pictures from the premiere here:
http://paulwesterberg.proboards107.com/
index.cgi?board=generalpw&action=
display&thread=1159271684.

Back to the soundtrack: the CD is available from all the usual suspects; there is also a 10" vinyl release that contains two bonus tracks. Here's the track listing:

Side A
1) Love You In the Fall
2) Right to Arm Bears
3) Whisper Me Luck
4) Wild as I Wanna Be (replacement version)*

Side B
1) Meet Me In The Meadow
2) Any Better Than This
3) I Belong (piano/vocal version)*

* songs not available on regular soundtrack

'Wild as I Wanna Be' (replacement version) is Paul's version of that song; the studio opted to go with Deathray's version for the soundtrack. This track is also available on iTunes. The alternate version of 'I Belong' is not on iTunes, only on this vinyl release. More info on this vinyl release:

9.26.06 THE MYRIAD FORM

Alternative / New Wave / Gothic

Partial official description: "The Myriad Form brings together 3 elements of experienced musicians from the greater West Coast undergrond music scene, blending together a wide range of elements from new wave, alternative, ethereal, and gothic sensibilities.

Featuring vocalist Severina X Sol from Cylab, who's many experiences include being a founding member of Diva Destruction, and being part of the electro formation Fockewolf. On drums is LA music veteran Ian Mayer, who has played with such bands as Near Death Experience, Idol Worship and Without Tears. Richard "Lurch" Pilawski who's been featured with such bands as Sex With Lurch, Mantle and is also a DJ in the LA & OC music scene does double duty with the Myriad Form on Keyboards and bass."

Being a fan of Severina's work I was thrilled to come across music from her new project, The Myriad Form. 'The Ocean Deep', '100 Days', and 'Ashes To Earth' are absolutely gorgeous songs! You must check them out, so visit myspace.com/themyriadform and thank me later.

"The full length album from The Myriad Form is being recorded, and is expected to be released by the end of 2006." - Official website

9.26.06 ROLLING DOG HAS A FIERCE BARK

New Wave / Disco House / Punk

Partial official description: "Rolling Dog - The Portsmouth five-piece are one of 2006's hottest prospects. Endorsed by Lord Steve Lamacq, and with frequent radio play on BBC Radio 1, 6 music, XFM and Artrocker, the chaps have recently supported, amongst others, Boy Kill Boy, Every Move A Picture, Kasabian, Chikinki, Fields, The Soundtrack Of Our Lives, and have sold out the 400 capacity Wedgewood Rooms in their home city seven times in a row."

Wow. We REALLY like these guys! We highly recommend listening to their 2006 songs 'Spookyvision' and 'Me Against The World'. They are currently unsigned - what kind of b.s. is that?

9.26.06 CRASH MIDNIGHT

Rock / Punk

Partial official description: "After a late night filled with shots of 151, Bo (bass) was speeding home. He lost consciousness and awoke to a face full of airbag and his car wrapped around a telephone pole. He called Shaun (lead vocals), not to pull him out of the heap, but to tell him that he'd found the perfect name for the band they would form: a rock n' roll trainwreck called Crash Midnight."

9.25.06 WILCO UPDATES

Official message: "Things in Wilcoworld have been busy as usual... the guys have just finished up a 3+ week recording session in Chicago and we're happy to report they made great progress on the as-yet-unnamed next studio record. We got to hang out for a few days while they were recording and suffice to say that the stuff is sounding really exciting. They've cut about a dozen tracks now and will go back into the studio to cut a few more in November and it's looking like, if all goes as planned, it'll be out in Spring '07.

In the meantime, most of you probably know that they've got a short tour of assorted college towns of the midwest (East Lansing, West Lafayette)and southeast (Morgantown, Huntsville, Oxford), present & former cities of the Texas League (Ft. Worth, San Antonio, Springfield. Mo. and Wichita), as well as a few less easily categorized places like Cincinnati, Louisville, Wash. DC and Latrobe, Pa. This is the group’s third U.S. run in support of 'Karmacode', their highly praised new album and will wrap up a highly successful year, which saw numerous highlights such as a main stage Ozzfest slot, a sold-out tour with Rob Zombie, a performance on Jimmy Kimmel Live and a Top 30 Active Rock hit single with the track 'Our Truth.'

The band says, We initially planned to headline the U.S. this fall, but Danzig made us an offer we couldn’t refuse, so we postponed our headlining plans until January. We can’t wait to return to America with another true legend.

This tour also coincides with the launch of the group’s new single for the track, 'Closer,' the third single from 'Karmacode'. 9.23.06 DIVA DESTRUCTION’S NEW ALBUM ‘RUN COLD’

Goth / Electro / Industrial

"Diva Destruction’s newest album shines with the explosive dance song 'Run Cold,' and expands into new electro sound-scapes with 'The 4th Knife' and her first instrumental track, 'Resolution.'

Fans of previous hits like 'The Broken Ones' and 'Enslaved' will love the similarly powerful songs titled 'Rewriting History' and 'Subterfuge.' Debra Fogarty’s delicate and exceptional piano ballad, 'Safe with Me,' displays her classical pianist training from a young age and makes her a true standout among electronic programmers.

Throughout the diverse songs, Debra's personal lyrics build and intertwine to reveal her full story as in a movie, uniquely topping off her best album by far. This long awaited 3rd album from Diva Destruction is a masterful showcase of Debra's many talents." - Metropolis Records

"I am very excited about my new album and I believe it is my best work so far. Thanks everyone for your great support!" - Debra (Diva Destruction)

9.22.06 YOU’LL LOVE CALIBAN

Metal / Hardcore

Official partial description: "Named after the wild, deformed slave in Shakespeare's The Tempest, Caliban are five German musicians who despite their young age are already seen as veterans of the European metal-core scene.

The strange mix of diabolical ruse and mighty impetuosity not only makes Caliban one of the most important characters in Shakespeare's dramas but also the patron saint to the musical orientation of this quintet from Germany's Ruhr region. Within just a few years they have become one of the most important and influential bands of that genre."

We checked out some of their music clips and think 'It's Our Burden To Bleed' and 'Nothing Is Forever' are frickin' amazing tunes. Both of these songs appear on their 2006 release, 'The Undying Darkness'.

9.22.06 SOPHE LUX

Alternative / Indie / Glam

Sophe Lux is a little PJ Harvey meets Tori Amos. She remains one-of-a-kind, however, by having unique stylings and vocals. We're completely taken by her!

We highly recommend taking some time to hear her songs 'Stella', 'Target Market', and 'Marie-Antoinette Robot 2073' (a rock opera) - all from her 2006 release, 'Waking The Mystics'.

9.21.06 ONEMILLIONTINYTINYJESUSES

Electronica / Experimental / Indie

Official description: "Onemilliontinytinyjesuses is you music. Started in the summer of 1997 Onemilliontinytinyjesuses allows tangents to run wild. Cutting and pasting the dreams and hopes of a past childhood with the crippling realties of the present Onemilliontinytinyjeuses creates a little womb to suck ones thumb and wish to be an inanimate object. Perhaps a chair? (You decide)"

Onemilliontinytinyjesuses are based in Kansas City, Missouri. They have released 5 albums to date. We just checked out some of their music clips and really like what we've heard. Check out 'Smack Smack Remix', 'Thank You Brodie', and 'On The Streets'.

9.21.06 THE MATCHES

Official message: "With 'Decomposer', The Matches stretch the boundaries of what a rock & roll album can be. Perfecting thirteen tracks with nine producers, the Oakland band’s ambitious, brilliantly-plotted sophomore disc doesn’t just move the goalposts with an assortment of loud rock, communicable pop and traces of techno, it enigmatically manages to keep listeners guessing while incorporating a unified feel.

Launched with 'Salty Eyes,' an adventurous, chamber rock song that owes as much to The Cure’s 'Head On The Door' or Ben Folds as it does Queen and The Beatles, the string-savvy tune is as flamboyant as it is heart-wrenching. Putting that first was definitely a conscious decision, says frontman/guitarist Shawn Harris. It's an invitation for people to raise a brow and cock an ear. " - Epitaph Records

9.20.06 THE CONCRETES' NEW ALBUM ALMOST FINISHED

Pop / Indie / Rock

Official message: "So, close your eyes (momentarily of course, or the following will be utterly pointless) and imagine this a little Concrete postcard. With the Swedish countryside, in all its glory, on the picture side and these words on the other (in very small handwriting):

So, unbelievable as this may sound, we have just about finished recording our third album! (Well, sort of, we have a couple of studio days booked in Stockholm this week to add a few finishing/magic touches but most of it is done.)

We have again ejoyed recording in Vallarum (see attached map), in the same studio as where we did our first record. It's a stunningly beautiful place in the middle of nowhere and the only person we've seen since we got here, apart from each other, is the cab driver that drops off our dinner every day. And a bunch of cows, a cat called Pear (don't ask ? partly because she is a cat and won't answer) and a rabbit called Alfred.

If the time we've spent here at all reflects in the music, then, well, you're in for a treat! (We're guessing March next year could be a reasonable album release month but will have to get back to you on that one). Either way, it's all terribly exciting and we have a very good feeling about this one. Well, we would, wouldn't we...

This is basically what the schedule has been like: 10.30 am. Wake up. Breakfast. Fight over the one available, sad excuse for a shower and remember not to waste any water as the well empties quickly (as we learnt the hard way when we here the last time around). 12 noon. Start recording. 6 ? 8 pm. Dinner break. Try and call home (but fail, there is no reception whatsoever and the phone in the studio is unplugged. Play Tetris. Approve friends on Myspace. Play some more Tetris. Try but fail miserably to beat Lisa in Tetris (she has twice as many points as any of the other 'cretes and she's annoyingly assured things will stay that way). 8 pm until we can't take it anymore (usually around 3 or 4 am). Record/Make magic. 4 am - bedtime.

(Tetris also occurs in all plausible breaks. And add drinks as you see fit. We tend to.).

Repeat all over again.

Glamorous, huh?

Anyways, we're just so very excited about things we'd thought we'd send you a note. We'll of course keep you posted!" Absolutely nothing but love and affection, The Concretes xxx

"P.S. What on earth should we call this album?!! Well, you tell us. Drop us a note, yes?" ds

9.19.06 UPDATES FROM THE INDIGO GIRLS

Folk / Acoustic / Pop

Official message: "Hello Everyone, We head into rehearsals next week for the Despite Our Differences tour with a full band: Matt Chamberlain on drums, Clare Kenny on bass, Carol Isaacs on keys, and of course, Amy and I. We'll be focusing on the new songs and also throwing in a smattering of older ones, hopefully a good representation of our discography.

We wanted to let you know that on August 31st and Sept 1st, we had two really special nights playing at Eddie's Attic in Decatur, GA to raise money and awareness for two very special causes. The first night was organized to raise money for Janet McLaughlin, one of our beloved Atlanta music scene community members throughout the years. Janet suffered a very serious brain aneurism and was left with, not only trying to regain her life, but also a stack of medical bills. We came together to help her out.

Mathew Kahler started the show, always an Atlanta favorite, followed by Sandra McCracken from Nashville. Sandra is a wonderful singer songwriter with a strong, clear voice and memorable songs. After that, Trina and Tomi from 3/5 Human took the stage and blew us all away with their combination of soulfulness and musicality. Dianne Durrett dropped in for an acapella song, and then Amy and I finished the evening with a short set that focused on new songs. Through ticket sales and donations, Janet took home a check for $4,710.00, which she was thrilled about.

On Sept 1st, we had a Writer's in the Round evening to raise money for GNESA. The Georgia Network to End Sexual Assault is a non-profit coalition of sexual assault agencies and concerned individuals that share the common goal of ending sexual assault. For more information about them and the work they are currently undertaking, please visit their website at www.gnesa.org.

That evening, the fabulous Brandi Carlile joined us and rocked the house especially with her rendition of Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah. Cara Page, an outstanding poet and activist shared her written word on subjects that affect us all: sexism, racism, war, power, and hope. Katz from the Athens Boys Choir did two spoken word pieces that made us all feel the internal beat of the message without any beat at all. With ticket sales, donations, and the silent auction, GNESA took home a check for $7,681.38; much needed funds for their important work.

So, it was great to be home, and great to come together for the sake of the community. I am again reminded of the power of music as a healing force to help mend the brokenness of this world. Thanks to all of y'all out there who help us keep it going." XO, Emily

We need your help! We have had mixed press on the record so far, (anyone who has followed the band knows that is nothing new!!(lol) But good or bad press has never really made a difference in the career of this band.

The problem is no one knows this record is out there! Please help spread the word!! We are going to tour our asses of in the next year (just like we always have) and break this band (again)... the old fashioned way... by slowly but surely winning people over.

Thank you all so much for your support and comments. The band and I appreciate you all so much. Much love and respect." Art

9.17.06 CONTINENTAL CLOSES & CBGB'S ANNOUNCES IT REALLY WILL TOO

Official message: "Today, Sunday September 17th 2006, CONTINENTAL will be holding its last concert:

For years, some people have suggested that there was some sort of rivalry between CBGB and CONTINENTAL. It's just not so. We are sad to see CONTINENTAL go. The loss of CONTINENTAL is a loss for the city. CONTINENTAL was a great venue for both new and established bands and will forever be an important part of the history of underground music in this once great city.

Sadly, we will be joining them and closing next month ourselves. Whatever you may think of CONTINENTAL or CBGB, losing these clubs marks the end of an era and another nail in the coffin of a once great downtown underground community.

We mourn the loss of CONTINENTAL and what it means for musicians, artists and other downtown denziens. We also feel sorry for the new generation of young angst filled musicians and artists who will be growing up in a city with fewer and fewer places for them to express themselves. Tonight, we will raise a glass to CONTINENTAL and remember them fondly.

Tonight is their last show. If you're not going to the show, at least pass by and show your respect.

CONTINENTAL is located at: 25 Third Avenue (between St. Marks Place & 9th St.)."

EBAY AUCTIONS: You can own a piece of CBGB!!! Watch the official CBGB website for future fixture & furniture Ebay auction notifications!

Ok. I'm totally tearing up here. I find this to be terrible news - on both accounts. It completely sucks. CBGB's warned of their closing in December, and there have been benefits since, but I thought it would never actually happen. They claim they will be gone by October. Continental gone by tomorrow. - Stacy, B&B

9.17.06 BIG CHANGES FOR DE CAPULET

Acoustic / Indie / Folk

Official message: "Dearest everyone, Over the last year and a half, I have encountered almost every situation imaginable - from blessings to breakdowns, from illnesses to feeling as if I were on top of the world. To say the least, the last 20 months have been an experience. The single variable that has remained constant throughout the entire ordeal is this: every one of you has believed in what we've done, and in the songs I've written. I could never thank you enough for any of this. You're my inspiration, and always will be. There have been times I felt as if I could not continue with De Capulet, and your encouragement kept me strong - kept me writing, kept me safe. I would like to express my gratitude for your continuous kindness.

I stand now in the wind of change.

As hard as it is for me to say, I say it now out of respect for you, and because you deserve to know. The decision has been made that De Capulet was not the right thing for Benn at this point in his life, and that I will continue on in an exploration of music by myself. I would like everyone to know that I still hold him in the highest regard, and will continue to consider him one of the best friends I could ever have. He has been with me since the beginning of De Capulet, and will always be in my thoughts. For the last few months, there has been a building of stress between the two of us, usually due to issues pertaining to music, or De Capulet - it was affecting the way we communicated, and our friendship. For 6 months, I had been worried about Benn's involvement with De Capulet, and felt as if issues with the band were getting a bit one-sided.

After the DJ Rossstar Radio Show, Benn approached me and informed me of his decision to not play music with me anymore. As much as his input and involvement has meant to me since De Capulet's birth, it was a decision I couldn't really argue with. Since the beginning of this project, I've written the songs and recorded the majority of the instruments - but Benn's input has always meant the world to me. It will always mean the world to me. Being the songwriter, I will continue to write songs, and I will continue recording everything I write - because all of you have always been so encouraging. I now ask you to believe in me, as you always have. I promise that some amazing things are happening.

Benn, of course, will be missed - but the music will never die." Jakob

9.16.06 MARGIN OF ERROR

Industrial / Electronica / Metal

Partial official description: "Margin of Error is a thought process that began its transmission in 2002 as people with questions. It has grown into minds being translated through sound and visual technologies.

The life you choose to lead is just that, a choice. We have chosen to program this machine so that we can properly display our thought pattern on. Whether you choose to agree or disagree with us is unimportant. Reaction may be our greatest tool of reaching stationary brains and eliminating the weak from our trip. Is this corrupt? Are we creating abominable works? You cannot inject the truth, it is only through experience that you will see glimmers of it and become more aware of fallacies."

9.15.06 THE HORRORS

*They'll be touring England throughout October.

9.15.06 NEON TREES

Alternative / New Wave / Pop

Official description: "Combining fever inducing jittery rock jams and syrupy melodic melodies, Neon Trees is gonna make you dance, cry and shout! Taking cues from guitar pop bands like The Smiths and The Cure, synth pop bands like Depeche Mode and New Order and mixing in their love of straight forward art rock/melodic rock influences from Radiohead to Sunny Day Real Estate to Sparta, the music of Neon Trees speaks for itself. Come shake it. Come shout it out.... Ladies and Gentlemen: NEON TREES!"

Their song 'Phones' is frickin' fabulous! We also really like their tunes 'Sister Stereo' and 'Up Against The Glass'. We can't wait to hear more from them!

9.15.06 DESIGN ALBUM COVER FOR THE BERZERKER!

Death Metal / Hardcore / Grindcore

Official message: "The Berzerker gives you the chance to design the artwork for their upcoming album. Due to The Berzerker artist Ivan Kenny-Sumiga currently re locating he will be unable to complete the album artwork by the deadline.

This opens up a very unique opportunity for 1 individual. Instead of Luke going to the nearest design company he is giving the fans the chance to show what that can do and perhaps make a name for them selves WORLDWIDE. The art can be any style, 2d or 3d. It just has to capture the brutality and class of the music.

The winning artist will have to chance to deal direct with the Luke and to design the album cover, inlay and art layout. The album has a world wide release and distribution with all the major magazines writing and reviewing the upcoming album.

The Album is currently UNTITLED but very similar soul crushing music.

The artwork concept is still to stick with a new incarnation of the IRON DRAGON. But all designs will be looked at.

The Deadline for final art work is October the 29th 2006. Cover size is 12x12cm 350 dpi.

This is a one - off opportunity for someone to hopefully go on to have a career as an graphic artist. Please submit all ideas to info@theberzerker.com(try to keep file sizes for submission under 1 meg.).

High Res Photos of Luke Kenny and the WORLD OF LIES album cover can be found at www.earache.com/mediacentre/berzerker/berzerker.html ."

9.14.06 BID ON CUSTOM OUIJA BOARD SIGNED BY THE BRONX

Punk / Rock / Hardcore

Official partial description: "The Bronx may come from the opposite coast to the New York borough of their name, but the LA four-piece share grittiness with that famous neighborhood. The Bronx has managed to clamber out of the Los Angeles hive to realize their dreams. The first offering from the band was 28 minutes of white hot noise, authentic imperfection at its finest, served to the world three times over during two and a half years of extensive touring. It was around this release that The Bronx quickly garnered a rabid following with their unusual blend of 1980’s punk and modern day rock music.

Their second (again self-titled) full-length album was released on July 18th, 2006. All basic tracks were recorded completely live, capturing the essence of simultaneous, convincing performances. The record bobs and weaves its way around the sonic landscape, and somehow manages to stay on the tracks, never losing the groove.

Now is your chance to own a unique piece of The Bronx -- a one-of-a-kind, limited edition ouija board signed by Matt Caughthran, Joby J. Ford, James Tweedy, and Jorma Vik!"

"All proceeds going to benefit the fine folks of LCA (Last Chance For Animals)."

Auction winner will receive: One (1) ouija board personally autographed by ALL four members of The Bronx. Auction ends September 17th.

9.13.06 DAMIEN WRITES NOSFERATU BOOK

Official message: "Dear Friends of NOSFERATU, As some of you may know, I am writing a book on the band Nosferatu from it's formation up to the present day. So far I have completed 3 Chapters, The Early Days, 1988 & 1989.

A well-known music journalist friend has kindly offered to assist me with the book once it is in its final stages. I hope to publish this book in Summer 2007 and if I cannot find a suitable publisher I guess I will get it printed from my own resources and distributed by our Record Distributors.

Rest assured this will not be an E-Book in pdf format, but finances permitting I aim to produce a small run of hardback issues followed on by a paperback book. I have worked within The Publishing Industry on and off since 1988 working on Trade Periodicals, Journals, Yearbooks & Video Games both as a sub-editor, in print production & dare I use that dreaded word designeraaaaaaaagggghhhh !!!

Ideally I am looking for photographs from 1988 to date. Studio shots, live concerts and just photos of the band. Anything considered.

All photos must however meet the following criteria:

1. They MUST be in focus.
2. They can be black & white or colour prints.
3. They can be mono, rgb or cmyk electronic files.
4. All photos must acknowledge the name of the photographer as I will
need to approach them for copyright use.
5. Electronic photo files must be no larger than 6 mb when compressed.
6. Ideally file resolution should be 300 dpi or higher. In some instances I
can work from large image screen resolution (72dpi) files so long as they

9.13.06 RICHARD CHRIST: BETTHER THAN THAT MARILYN MANSON GUY

Rock / Industrial / Glam

Who is Richard Christ?

Partial official description: "The love for music and its power start from his childhood, when he discovers rockstars like Michael Jackson, Freddy Mercury, Jim Morrison and later Gunsnroses, Iron Maiden, Nirvana, Sex Pisols, 80s, Rob Zombie, Placebo and Marilyn Manson... At 14 years old he plays guitar and starts to plan with his old friends but the only thing he always wants is trying to do something meaningful... At the age of 17 he will close his friendships in order to find that inner force that he will develop, contending with the rest of the mass."

We love what we're hearing from this guy! Check out his songs 'Revolution Drugs', his Blondie cover 'Call Me', and 'Eyes' by visiting www.myspace.com/richard999christ . He's currently scheduled for several shows in Italy on his 'Jesus in OverDose Tour 2006-2007'. You can also get updated tour information and cd ordering instructions by clicking the link above.

9.12.06 BEAR COLONY

Electro / Experimental / Indie

Partial official description: "A little under a year ago an idea was hatched in a empty bedroom with a computer and some electronic beats. At the forefront of this musical journey was the idea of friendship and a desire to be around people who are comforting. The goal was simple: to form a collective of friends who were excited about working on a project together that might never see the light of day...it would be our secret joy to do when we were feeling creative.

Right now with nine people stretching across two continents it has become an exciting journey that has not only left the bedroom but graced the ears of many people of whom we never in our wildest dreams expected it to. What we have to offer is simple, music that hopefully will move you in the way it has moved us."

WE LOVE BEAR COLONY! In the case of their song 'The Boy With Broken Arms', they sound like a mix of Radiohead, early U2 and Grandaddy. 'Hospital Rooms' and 'Suffocation' are amazing tunes as well. You must check them out!

9.12.06 THE SPOILERS

Punk / Garage / Rock

Partial official description: "The Spoilers are a punk band from Boston, MA and were born out of boredom, dissatisfaction with the mundane, and as a type of psycho therapy for living in the world. They formed in 2001 and eventually got beyond the confines of their closet of a practice space to have played consistently around Boston and New England for the past five years. They really just want to drink beer, act like children, and make really loud noises. Simple, straightfoward, and fun is the way it is for these kids. Self-indulgence sucks, get over yourselves, rockstars!!"

We highly recommend checking out their music clips 'Kicked In The Head' and 'Strike The Bell'. For a laugh, make sure to also listen to 'Groupie Whore'.

9.11.06 TRANSAUDIO

Partial official description: "Formed in Glasgow, Scotland in 1998, Transaudio have released three singles and have appeared on two compilation albums." Transaudio's new single 'RESET ZERO' is out now (Red Spirit Recordings 2006).

We love their new songs 'Reset Zero' and 'Echoes'! Listen to these music clips by www.myspace.com/transaudio1 .

9.11.06 LETTERS & COLOURS

New Wave / Alternative / Indie

Official partial description: "Letters and Colours are a 4 piece based in Sheffield, England. They were formed in 2004 as a two piece, but have gone from strength to strength since recruiting live bass and drums. The band are heavily influenced by the Sheffield post-punk scene, which spawned bands such as Artery, Pulp and Vice Versa; as well as The Cure and Joy Dvision. They completed their first nationwide tour in February 06, and will embarking on a full scale tour in October. 'Confrontation' and 'Bigger Than Life' is their debut double a-side cd single only on Dead Product."

When I heard the songs 'Alpha' 'Chase The Bull', 'Bigger Than Life', and 'Confrontation' by Letters & Colours, I defintely heard a little Joy Division and The Cure. These great bands are an influence but Letters & Colours also have a style all their own.

I'm very confident that if you check them out you'll be thinking the same as I... How fast can I get this added to my cd collection? Check out their tagworld.com/lettersandcolour .

9.11.06 LYDIA LUNCH HAS A MESSAGE

"To devastate by language, to blow up the word and with it the world." E.M. Cioran

Official message: "Shit...I wish. Is it only me, or has the whole world lost it's fricking mind? Break downs, break ins, break ups, conniptions, heat sickness. Every time I pick up the phone, read an email, run into someone on the street, another mind numbing catastrophe is related which attempts to blot out my hard fought sanity. Right... like I'm supposed to be the sane one. Maybe not, but I still have a desperate need to try to make sense of this bullshit.

Maybe our individual personal torment is just a reflection of History's madness. All suffering is about the imbalance of power. And who, when confronted with the blatant insanity that is passed off as the norm everyday, isn't feeling their power, their vitality, their life force being sucked on by the vipers who grin like monkeys from the idiot box while spewing their mind- fucking doublespeak proclaiming progress and victory when the facts scream out in complete opposition.

Each and every day the arrogant behavior of the greedy brutarians in the US Government are responsible for the soul murder of over 2 million American prisoners (and uncounted foreign 'suspects' in suspended animation in their highly illegal secret prisons), the enslavement of 47 million mostly hard working people still living below the poverty level trying to make ends meet on minimum wage, the ridiculous expenditure and extravagant waste of taxpayers dollars to fund outlandish wars fought in the name of democracy and freedom, right, like anyone voted on that...

Yeah I take this shit personal.

Consider the thought of re-incarnation as the ability to dissect the secret history inherent in our genetic coding and the many atrocities which have polluted our bloodlines. Contemplate suffering from an acute awareness, an oversensitivity to geography and the army of ghosts that litter the landscape who have given their lives, leeched of blood by the whims of soul suckers who denigrate life by celebrating death. Pretend that every step you take, every stairwell, room, street, has absorbed the lives, deaths, loves, fears, arguments and heartbreaks of everyone and everything that has come before you and your job is to give voice to this nightmare. If it sounds melodramatic to you, it murders me on a minute to minute basis. So yeah...it's that personal to me.

Everyday is either the anniversary of another horrible tragedy, or it's a celebration that we survived to thrive and spite the odds yet again. So laugh a little, cry a little, die a little and live to be reborn daily.

Today I celebrate the release of Deviations on a Theme : a 64 track enhanced CD deluxe presentation which spans nearly 3 decades of independent art terrorism, the goal of which has always been to give voice and a shot of adrenaline to those who stubbornly refuse to go quietly into the long dark night of mankind's perpetual spiral." 9.9.06 KGC IS A LITTLE BIT OF KMFDM, CURVE & DRILL

Experimental / Electro / Rock

Partial official description: "KGC (Konietzko, Garcia, Cifarelli) is the brain child of three of the most trail-blazing underground artists around: Dean Garcia the musical genius behind Curve, known for his monolith guitars and layered production style, that envelopes you with its tsunami of instrumentation, Sascha Konietzko of KMFDM, whose innovative and unorthodox approach toward production have garnered him with international acclaim as one of the foremost pioneers of industrial/ultra heavy beat and Lucia Cifarelli of KMFDM and Drill, whose vocal and lyrical talents go from provocative to menacing in the beat of a rivet-head lovelorn heart."

9.09.06 POSER? A QUICK BABBLE

"I’m 36 years old. I have many dear friends but meeting new people doesn’t come easily. Try starting a conversation with a stranger you look nothing like in between shows at a concert. If you don’t look a certain way, well, prepare for the snub.

I’ll talk to anyone. I don’t care what race, what haircut, tattoos or no tattoos, piercings or no piercings, fashion sense or no fashion sense, etc. If I am at a concert, assume I like the band. I’m going to assume you do too. Does anything else matter? No! You can tell me “yes” until you are blue in the face. I don’t get that answer. I never will.

You, the girl from Indiana at the New Model Army concert in Chicago two years back – the one who was so incredibly unkind to me. She judged me on my look alone – one that’s without piercings, with no visible tattoos, with drab hair color, Nike sneakers, a plain black t-shirt, and a smile. She wouldn't acknowledge that I was talking to her as I stood right in front of her. Afterwards, I heard her talking about me being a “poser” as she stood right behind me. She had nothing else to base that poser label on (since she never spoke to me). By the way, she'll never know that I’ve listened to New Model Army since I was 16, that’s twenty years, or that I ran an online fan database for 5 of those years. Surely, she would have seen how passionate I am about NMA if she had given me a chance. We all know how exciting it is when you meet someone else who loves what you love!

I am the furthest thing from a poser you can get. I genuinely like all types of music. I’ve been known to play Gordon Lightfoot one minute and Psychic TV the next. I love them both. Why can’t me enjoying something be proof enough?

I’m not the only person who experiences this insane crap. I see it all around me. Most recently, despite having this webzine (where if you look you will clearly see I cover all sorts of music), I signed up for the Unto Ashes mailing list - only to get an unwelcome response. It was something like “Are you sure you want to join? It’s not like we’re U2 or anything.” I set them straight and got an apology. But where does this abrasive attitude come from?

So, for all you “posers” out there – you aren’t alone. For all you bullies out there – reach out. You may meet your new best buddy. - Stacy, Babble and Beat

9.8.06 KEANE'S NORTH AMERICAN TOUR IS CANCELLED

Official message: "Keane have taken the difficult decision to cancel their North American tour, including the recently rescheduled dates.

Tom Chaplin is currently being treated for alcohol and drug addiction and will not return to the road until he, and the doctors handling his recovery, feel that he is ready to do so.

Tom's bandmate Tim Rice-Oxley said: "Obviously it's crucial that Tom is given the time to get better properly. With the first dates in America only a fortnight away, his doctors feel there is undue pressure on Tom to rush through rehab and get back out on the road. That's why, between the three of us, we've decided to cancel the North American tour. We'd like to apologize to the fans who've bought tickets, but we've done this in the best interests of our friend - which, ultimately, is in the best interests of the band too. At this stage we plan to go ahead with the tours of the UK and Europe in October and November. We'll be keeping in close touch with Tom and his doctors about how he's progressing and we'll keep you posted." This means Keane's following US/Canadian shows are all cancelled." - Keane Camp

9.8.06 TRANSMISSION LOW?

9.7.06 FUTUREHEADS UPDATE

Official message: "I'll be honest, this is a first. I'm currently sitting on board a 12 hour long haul flight, which rather luckily has internet on board - so I thought I'd post a quick bulletin to let you all know what we've been up to.

We're on out way back from Japan after doing three excellent gigs - one in each of Ossaka, Nagoya and Tokyo. Thanks to everyone who came, the crowds were awesome and made the gigs loads of fun.

It was out first real tour of Japan, previously we'd only been to Tokyo and Fuji rock festival so it was great to see a little more of the country. Other than the gigs we enjoyed a little ten pin bowling (Ross won the git), some tasty food (even the veggies did ok this time) and drank far too much booze.

I was the only one to escape the horrors of jet lag - probably due to my super human strength - and everyone else is catching up on this flight home. My penance is the prospect of 10 more (soon to be 'battery-less') alone. Oh well, looks like I'll have to delve into that inflight magazine and disturb the person next to me by pushing past to go to the toilet. Speak soon." Jaff. x (The Futureheads)

9.5.06 TRASHCAN DARLINGS' NEW RELEASE

Glam / Punk

Official message: "The brand new Trashcan Darlings CD, 'Getting Away With Murder', was released in Norway on the 28th of August. Seems Platekompaniet all over the country has sold out the copies they have ordered and our distributor is already swamped with re-orders. That's great so if your local Platekompaniet or other record store is sold out, phone them every day and have them order more! You can also get it at www.platekompaniet.no of course!

It was released in GERMANY on the 1st of September and is now available from www.eastsiderecords.de and www.flight13.de . Make sure you order your copies and listen to it a lot as soon as possible, cause the main weight of the set of the upcoming tour will be from the new CD.

American and Canadian fans can already pre-order it from www.backstageworldwide.com . The shipping date is set to October the 5th, but if they get enough pre-orders they'll start shipping sooner. So if you really want it, PRE ORDER NOW!!! The pre-order price is of course also cheaper than what it will be sold for later so what have you got to lose?

Backstageworldwide will soon carry TD merchandise as well as it's too fucking expensive to keep sending stuff across the pond, so watch that site cloesly!"

Unfortunately, as sometimes happens, shows are cancelled through reasons beyond our control. We will, of course, try to find a way, under better circumstances, to make it possible to play for you at a later date.

We are at the moment, in the middle of pre-production for our new album ('Song writing sessions') and will then be travelling to L.A. to begin recording. Have a little patience, the album is due to be ready in early 2007 and we hope to see you all on tour next year. Till then, Keep on Rockin'." - Your "Scorpions"

9.5.06 WHAT’S NEW WITH XTC

Official message: "The Warbles are coming!

The final releases in the 'Fuzzy Warbles' series, Volumes 7 and 8, are going to be available for purchase from the APE Web site (www.ape.uk.net/welcome.html) on 25 Sept -- and you're going to be able to get them, or the other Warbles, with extra goodies if you so choose.

There's a 'Collector's Album', lovingly designed by Andy, that features his "home-recording memoirs" and a bonus CD containing 9 never-before-heard tracks. You can buy this with or without Vols. 7 and 8, and there will be an opportunity to buy the first 6 discs in the series at a deep discount, if you haven't already picked them up.

Though the entire set will be available in October at other sites online and in stores, the APE House is the only place where you'll be able to mix and match your Warbles to your heart's content. We'll let you know when the discs are available for purchase at the site." - XTC

9.5.06 VNV NEWS

Official message: "Hi there, We wanted to let you know about a special event we're doing in Los Angeles. We will be playing a special VNV Nation live show on Friday, October 13th at the Das Bunker (www.myspace.com/dasbunker) 10 year anniversary.

As it's their 10th Anniversary, we felt it only fair to give the show a bit of a twist. We've decided to do a strictly "classic" concert which means we'll only be playing songs from 'Advance and Follow', ,Praise and Fallen, and from the ,Empires / Burning Empires, era. There'll be a lot of songs that haven't been played in years as well as a few other surprises.

There will also be special merch available to mark the event. All in all, this is definitely going to be a special evening. This is the same club that started spinning tracks from our 'Advance and Follow' album 10 years ago and helped us get a start in North America so we're very happy to be a part of their birthday celebrations.

Alongside the VNV Nation live show there will be a live show by W.A.S.T.E. (www.myspace.com/waste) and your regular Das Bunker DJs playing the best in industrial electronic music until 4am.

The show is 18 and over and is strictly limited to 900 tickets. This event will sell out quickly so make sure to get your tickets early.

For more info, please check out the Das Bunker site. Tickets are available online here: http://groovetickets.com/ordersystem/Groove/eventviewqb.asp?
AffilID=93&EventsID=24991&PGname=das+bunker

As for other VNV info - more releases are up and coming this year and a new album will be released in 2007 followed by a world tour. All the latest news is posted in the blog on our myspace page so please subscribe to the blog if you want to keep up to date with all the latest news. Everytime we post an update you'll get it in your inbox and the message won't get lost in the oblivion that is the bulletin folder." Best Wishes, Ronan and Mark

Partial official description of DBY: "Heavily drawing from all things horror, Death Becomes You have created a sound that is at the same time both visceral and melodic, yet dark enough to let you know that mortal fools need not apply."

9.1.06 OUR BABBLE ABOUT THE MTV AWARDS LAST NIGHT

Why did I watch? Lou Reed, Jack White, Jack Black, and The Killers, that's why.

Please tell me I'm nuts in thinking that Lou Reed was boo'd at yesterday's MTV Video Awards. He made a statement that MTV needs to play more Rock 'N Roll. I couldn't agree more. Regardless of your stance on that issue, who boos Lou frickin' Reed?

Also, that white boy Justin Timberlake can really tear up the dance floor. Good going, Justy! "Sexy" is back and I am horrified to admit it.

Axl Rose introduced The Killers. What did Axl Rose yell by the way? "I look like Mick Hucknall!" ???? (of Simply Red). It's pretty freaky when you can't even remotely recognize someone. -SS

Official message: "A lot of you have written us concerned about our mysterious silence of the last several months. Rest assured, we are alive and well. The rumors regarding Mike and Anthony being detained in a Venezualan prison are NOT true.

After 18 months on the road we have dropped off the face of the earth to work on our next album, due out in early 07. We are working with producer Brendan OBrien, and are recording the album half in Brendans studio in Atlanta and half in various apartments scattered around New York City.

We will be hitting the road again in November; we look forward to seeing you all again soon!"
