10.27.06 STOLEN EQUIPMENT - DETROIT

"I feel like this happens far too often but when it happens to your friends you realize how devastating it can be for a band to have ALL of their gear and belongings stolen. If you are in a position to help out they could really use it." Thanks, Joe (Nightmare of You)

Read:

"Dear people, As some of you already know, our van and trailer and nearly every instrument we've ever had were stolen on Monday October 23rd in Detroit around 1 pm in the afternoon, right out of the parking lot of the Day's Inn we were staying at on East Jefferson (downtown).

I can't express what a terrible feeling it is to have something like this happen. Pretty much our whole lives were in the van, including equipment that we've bought and collected over a long period of time..much of which can never be replaced. Anyway, we're going to continue the rest of this MTV $2 Bill tour we're on (thanks to Head A, Cobra & 30) and then sort out what we're gonna do afterwards, since we already have tour dates set up Kasabian, followed by our Germany and UK headlining tour a few days after Kasabian ends.

We did have insurance but unfortunately it only covers about a quarter of what was in there; between the van, trailer, equipment, lights, merch, clothes and other personal belongings, I can safely say we've lost about $100,000 dollars worth of stuff. Every few minutes we think of something else that was in there that's gone now and punch ourselves in a sensitive area.

If anyone would like to help us out--even if it's the smallest amount--we have set up a Paypal donation account to help us start to try to replace our gear. Needless to say, anything anyone can donate would mean so much to us, even the smallest amount. We wanna thank everyone for their great emails and continuing support of our band..we love you all very, very much.

Oh and before I forget we also wanna thank the Detroit police for showing up 3 1/2 hours after we called, giving the crackhead who robbed us more than enough time disappear into the clean, safe streets of Detroit." - TJ and the rest of Men Women & Children

If you'd like to help, please search Paypal.com for menwomenandchildren@gmail to make a donation.

10.22.06 ASTRA HEIGHTS NEWS

Rock / Indie / Pop

Official message: "Mixing news - We boys gotta remix 'The Whole World Changes' one last time because according to unsubstatiated record label reports it looks like that'll be our first single. If it doesn't hit the mark this last time, then it's gonna be a big s--t sandwich for us and we're all gonna have to take a bite. Hopefully, it will come out great and the album will be mastered sometime in mid-November.

Live news - Now that the band is all back in LA and hungry for the attention and high of gigging we are setting up shows in the area. Please notice Spaceland and the Silverlake Lounge. Also trying to set up a low volume gig at the Hotel Cafe in early December...we'll see what happens. Hope to see you there, yeah?

Misc. news - We are recording a new song called 'American Gun'... it's very cool and big and bombastic and very uplifting... you know how Astra does it... you know how we roll. That should be done in December. We are also re-recording an unreleased song called 'Top of the Mountain'... it is very chill and reflective, a good step for the band to take. That'll be done sooner, sometime in November, me thinks. Maybe we'll post it so you all can download it like 'In Gold'... that would be nice, right?

Ok, that's it for now... have a good day and please stop by and say hello." - Astra Boys

10.20.06 WE ARE SCIENTISTS NEWS

Rock / Indie

Official message: "Guys, We're out here in England conducting a truly inspiring run of the townships, eating many curries, drawing much praise from the parents of the children for our positive attitudes and advanced sex-nique. Next up is Europe, and then it will be about time to return to New York for the winter and get some goddamn new material generated – something to serve as next summer's 'Hips Don't Lie', maybe.

Before we wave goodbye, though, we need to see East Coast in the Fall. We talked Oxford Collapse and Australia's The Grates into joining us for four final flings:

Dec 7 - Cambridge, MA @ Middle East Downstairs (18+)
Dec 9 - Brooklyn, NY @ Northsix (16+)
Dec 10 - Philadelphia, PA @ First Unitarian Church
Dec 12 - Washington, DC @ Black Cat

We Are Scientists tickets go on sale Oct. 27, but there are a few advance tickets available as of today over at http://wearescientists.ducatking.com – the service charge on these is next to nil, and they come in shiny silver (not sure about the silver part)." 10.19.06 VICIOUS ALLIANCE

Electro / Industrial / Gothic

Partial official description: "Hailing from the suburban sprawl that is rapidly developing the landcape in a sea of concrete and strip malls, Vicious Alliance is a creative outlet to express the rage of its members against such a world. Fusing the synthetic elements and melodic progression of epic Futurepop with the harsh vocals, throbbing basslines, and thick drums of dark ebm; Vicious Alliance tries to reconstruct the world along the lines of a glorious past melded with a future full of potential."

10.18.06 ANDY BELL'S PARTNER'S AUTOBIOGRAPHY

Official message: "Hello, You may recall from various interviews with Andy Bell in recent years that his partner and manager Paul Hickey has written an autobiography, 'Happiness Is The Best Facelift'.

The book gives a powerful insight into how his and Andy's lives together changed with the phenomenal success of Erasure, and paints a vivid picture of what it was like for Paul to suffer a stroke and to be struck down in the prime of life. One learns from the book that it is never too late to start doing the right thing, and that it is always worth putting up a fight, even when all the cards seem to be stacked against you...

Paul has set up a presence on myspace.com, where one can read a detailed synopsis of his book plus a breakdown of the first two chapters in his blog.

Now this is where your help would be appreciated. Basically we need to demonstrate with hard figures the demand for the book to potential publishers. So it would be of a great assistance if you could leave feedback / comments via Paul's myspace blog of what you think about what you have read and if it is a publication that would interest you.

Paul's Myspace site: myspace.com/minotaurmusic .

*One will be required to request becoming a MySpace friend in order to read the blog (all requests will be approved), again this is in order to demonstrate (to a certain extent) the interest. Because of this, please do not republish the synopsis on other websites / blogs / forums etc." Thank you, Greg (Erasure Information Service)

10.18.06 TROUBLE FOR HANZEL UND GRETYL IN DENVER

Metal / Industrial / Death Metal

Official message: "Hey All Denver Hanzel Und Gretyl Fans! I am sitting in a Denver Bar right now, Netherworld Cafe, pissed off !!! Our trailer on our bus came off and crashed into a ditch. That was the begining of our problems, then after waiting for the welder and highway police and all that good stuff, we finally got on the road, and about 2 hours from Denver the radiator busted and we sat in a ghost town waiting for this thing to get fixed.

We told the promoters that we were on the way but they told us about the blizzard going on. So, the show was cancelled. We got to the club at 9:30. Wished we could have played the show. The universe was just not on our side. Our apologies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We will get this Uber Death Party Started in Fukken Denver! WE ARE UBER BUMMED! We'll be back." - Vas/Loopy and Uber Fukken HUG Krew and Bella Morte

10.18.06 TEMPER TANTRUM – 11 YEAR OLD VOCALIST

Punk / New Wave / Alternative

Official desription: "With 3 decades and 2 generations of experience and energy, Temper Tantrum gives Punk Rock a refreshing change and nostalgic feel for the old and the new.

Fronted by 11 year old Samantha Lee and backed by her father and Guitarist Abner, Mark Banks on Drums and Shawn Bader on Bass, Temper Tantrum sends Punk Rock back to Pre Skool with songs about pre adolescent angst such as 'What Do You Want From Me' and 'Grown-Ups Lie' with a mixture of simple yet powerful music, Temper Tantrum brings back what punk rock used to be. Aggressive and Fun."

Their 2006 album is called 'The Elementary Years'. We checked out their music clips @ myspace.com/tempertantrum1 and especially like their songs 'Buddy', 'Kitty Kats And Rain', and 'Far Beyond'.

10.10.06 JACK WHITE’S ALUMINIUM

Classical / Alternative / Electronica

Official message: "Aluminium is an album of avant garde orchestral recordings of music written by Jack White of The White Stripes.

The project was conceived by the founder of XL Recordings, Richard Russell, who co-produced the album with the renowned composer and arranger Joby Talbot. It was recorded between August 2005 and February 2006 at Intimate Studios in Wapping (London), using a specially assembled orchestra comprising many of the UK's finest young classical musicians.

The album will be available exclusively through the Aluminium website as a numbered limited edition of 3,333 CDs and 999 LPs. The download format will not be limited, and will come with an electronic booklet. The album will be available for pre-order on November 6th, 2006.

Long time White Stripes collaborator, Rob Jones, created a series of 10 images to accompany the album. These images will be printed up as cards and packaged with both the CD and LP formats. In addition to this, the LP format will include a section of an original Rob Jones silk screen print.

The images are available to view on the Aluminium MySpace site, and as part of a wider Rob Jones exhibition which is currently showing at the Richard Goodall Gallery in Manchester.

On hearing Aluminium, choreographer Wayne McGregor included tracks from the album in a new piece that he is putting together for the Royal Ballet. The piece will be performed at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden this November.

10.07.06 THE POP CULTURE SUICIDES

Punk / New Wave

Partial official descripition: "The Pop Culture Suicides is Multi-Platinum Musician/Songwriter Zim Zum's sonic brainchild and a musical manifesto like no other. To describe The Pop Culture Suicides sound is as futile as only feeling one emotion your whole life. To truly come to an understanding of who you are is to embrace everything you love and hate about yourself...

Traditional music formats are all but nonexistent as the songs play out like movies, taking you through the sonic storyline, always leaving you wondering what is just around the corner and ultimately bringing a sense of resolve in whatever the ending may or may not be.

This CHICAGO quintet is the product of extreme isolation and experimentation. Shutting out the world outside as a means of cleansing the incessant barrage of a massively over commercialized conformist society.

Flirting with elements of Rock Opera, Orchestral pieces and Performance Art, The Pop Culture Suicides play by a completely unique and individualistic set of rules, if any at all. Accepting and presenting nothing less than music as art and approaching each moment as if it were the last, they are loud and thunderous, quiet and introverted, fearless, optimistic and unapologetic all at once."

This band kicks total ass! We're new to them but we know good stuff when we hear it! Check out their songs 'Nothing' and 'The Art Of The Bruise', two completely different sounding songs, by visiting myspace.com/thepopculturesuicides .

10.07.06 HAVE YOU HEARD CINDERGARDEN?

Electro / Gothic / Trip Hop

Partial official description: "Cindergarden's debut album, 'Underground Light Machine', plants a seed whose twisted vines stretch from the roots of imagination into the corners of our darkest dreams. Working from a diverse palette of industrial, trip-hop and electrogoth, the band pays homage to these genres while retaining a refreshing approach that breathes life into a scene in dire need of resuscitation.

Lush synths and broody beats echo through the walls of this complex machine as the listener is guided through dimly lit corridors by the haunting voice of songwriter, Jaymie Valentine. Her lyrics forge a path through mazes of the mind, unlocking cryptic passages to realms long forgotten."

This is really, really great stuff here folks! We've only heard a handful of songs but we're working on it. Check out their music clips by visiting the link below - you'll luv 'em too.

10.06.06 REVCO INTRODUCES SNOW BLACK

Partial official message: "The Revolting Cocks' Phildo Owen has announced that he will be unveiling his new project Snow Black in Texas this month on a string of dates alongside industrial rock pioneers KMFDM. Joining him for the five-date tour are bassist Paul Raven (Ministry, Killing Joke), guitarist Sin (Revolting Cocks) and drummer Mark Dufour (Skrew).

"It's truly exciting to finally unleash the beast that is Snow Black on the masses," says Owen of the upcoming shows.

"Snow Black is a chance for us to forget the bullshit and just get down and greasy while pounding out ass-shaking grooves!" comments Paul Raven, a veteran of the industrial scene best known for his time with industrial post-punk act Killing Joke as well as thrash/alternative metal act Prong and, most recently, Ministry.

Four tracks from Snow Black's upcoming debut full-length are now available for fans exclusively via the band's MySpace page: myspace.com/snowblack."

10.06.06 THE OCTOBER

Alternative / Indie / New Wave

Partial official description: "The October's debut, 'Push Me Off the Side of the Earth', is a portal that takes you back to some of the greatest moments of Brit Rock (think Echo and the Bunnymen and Oasis) and 80s New Wave (remembering classic U2 & the Church). Since its release in June of 2004 it has been creating a buzz all over the world with its echoing guitars, danceable beats, and huge, melodic choruses."

"Their recent follow up 'Bye Bye Beautiful' emerges high above the trend-followers of the current 80s new wavers. Pulling from the real pioneers of the genre from the UK, The October take the genre forward into something their own."

We completely LOVE their songs 'Bedroom Girls', 'Kings And Queens', and 'Sending Echoes' - all off of their recent album 'Bye Bye Beautiful' (2006, Spark Gun).

10.06.06 KID CONGO POWERS

Alternative / Other / Rock

Kid Congo Powers' 2006 release 'Solo Cholo' is "a collection of of rare nuggets compiled by Kid himself, focuses on the other side - his substantial body of work as a singer and songwriter."

Official partial description: "Kid's collaborators on SOLO CHOLO include BARRY ADAMSON (Magazine, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds,...), ROBIN GUTHERIE (Cocteau Twins), MARCIA SCHOFIELD (The Fall), STEVE YOUNG (Colourbox, M.A.R.R.S.), JIM SCLAVUNOS (Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Sonic Youth, Teenage Jesus, 8-Eyed Spy,...,...,...), ABBY TRAVIS (Beck, Elastica,...), PAUL WALFISCH (Firewater, Botanica, etc.), JIM THIRWELL (AKA Foetus, Clint Ruin, etc.), and more. And, just in case you need one more name followed by quotes, the liner notes are by BB Gun's BOB BERT (Sonic Youth, Pussy Galore, Chrome Cranks,...)."

I didn't want to bold the WHOLE paragraph above. Geez, impressive, hah?

10.05.06 SWALLOWS

Indie / Experimental / Pop

Partial official description: "Bluesy guitar and dance punk rhythms dominate while sheer call-out vocals rock and roll their way throughout 'Me With Trees Towering', Swallows debut release on Sarah Dougher's Cherchez La Femme Projects.

The album showcases songs containing a wide variety of stylistic influence ranging from pop, math rock, blues, garage, metal and experimental art rock."

The music is great, the vocals seem just a hair too soft, BUT in my opinion it really works!

There are two music players on their MySpace page so make sure to check out both. 'Flight' and 'I'd Like To Be Your Man' are among many great music clips at:

10.04.06 BOY KILL BOY MESSAGE FROM SHAZ

Indie / Pop / Rock

Official message: "Hello all of you lot, Shaz here. It's my birthday and I’m sitting here at home, counting my wristbands, and thought I’d write some stuff for any of you who might be interested in some stuff.

It seems like ages since we’ve seen any of you and we’re really missing you (believe it or not!). I know I for one am counting the minutes till the tour starts at the end of the week, can’t wait. Gonna try to organise as many after shows as humanly possible. Having said that we have been up to some good things. For a start, we’ve been to a couple of studio places and written some new songs, which are actually really good, bit different but really good. I think you’ll like them. A couple of them are b-sides for Boy Kill Boy's ‘Shoot Me Down’ single at the end of the month on the subject of which, you have to see the video. We shot it the other day and without giving too much away I can safely say that whether you like us or not you’ll find it quite satisfying.

We went back to Ibiza again too, to do an acoustic gig this time. If you’ve never been it's not like you’d expect with ‘the lads’ all over the place, its actually really relaxed and quite beautiful, would fully recommend it, even to any couples out there. Then we went to Berlin for a show, so weird going to a city you’ve never been to and so many people know your name, and the words to all your songs. Had a little look around too, loved it.

'Shoot Me Down' out November 6th, pre order it at www.recordstore.co.uk/boykillboy/home.
jsp?Search=1709BOY-BUND.

Anyway gonna go, might have a bath, haven’t had one of those for a while. Come and say hello if you’re coming to see us." xxxxxx

10.03.06 CALABRESE

Rock / Punk / Gothic

Partial official description: "In 2001, Calabrese was formed by the three brothers Bobby, Jimmy, and Davey Calabrese. The brothers, from Phoenix, AZ, have combined Gothabilly looks, B-movie drive-in lyrics and a Rock n' Roll sound.

Calabrese has been described as "melodic, hook-laden, catchy, fun, horror-themed Rock with a Punk attitude." Blasko, the bassist for The Death Riders and Rob Zombie states, "I think CALABRESE is one of the top Horror Rock bands I have heard.""

We love their latest song 'Voices Of The Dead', as well as their 2005 album, '13 Halloweens'.

10.03.06 BE IN THE NEXT VIDEO FROM THE MOSAICS

Pop / Rock / Indie

Official message: "Be in our forthcoming video! The Mosaics will be shooting a video for the track 'Runner' sometime in late February/early March 2007, aaannnd we need a young couple to star in it!

Who could we ask, we thought friends, family??? Perhaps a fan of the band? Perhaps one of our MySpace friends?

Thing is, our MySpace friends span the globe. So, if we ran a competition the winner could be from anywhere literally!

So, we had a strokey beard moment and decided our student grants/loans will be due what the hell, lets open the competition to anyone and everyone!

So, how do you enter? Well, there's two ways:

Firstly, between now and December 31, 2006, anyone that either is or becomes our MySpace friend and sends us a private message with their email address, full name and where they are in the world (city and country will do for now), will be entered into the competition draw.

Secondly, as an extra reward for the support, anyone that buys our E.P from this page, we'll put their name in the hat 10 times to give them an extra 9 chances of winning.

The competition is open to anyone between the ages of 18 and 30 ANYWHERE!*

The winner will receive free return travel to the UK and 1 weeks accommodation for two: the winner and their partner boyfriend, girlfriend or just their best mate (of the opposite sex please to play the GUY and GIRL in the video. Humble apologies to all you same sex couples, but the storyline of the video just doesn't work that way.)

And of course they get their starring role in the video!

The draw for the prize will be at a live show, which will also be broadcast live on the World Wide Web.

After the drawing, we'll contact the winner to arrange travel dates, which will fall between Feb 25, 2007, and March 25, 2007.

So, wherever you are in the world, drop by our page and register for the competition and/or send us a copy of your receipt from Popworld Promotes for downloading our single to get the extra entries into the competition.

While you're there, please check out our tunes, including the track for the video, 'Runner'.

We'd love it if you actually like our tunes. But, considering anyone in his or her right mind would simply say they do anyway, in order to be in with a chance of winning the prize we're not about to start giving entrants lie detector tests!

Whoever wins, we'll just be happy to produce a great video and make sure the lucky winners have a trip to the UK they'll never forget.

So get moving... You've got to be in it to win it!

*NOTE: If the legal age of 'adulthood' in your location is higher than 18, for either the winner or their accompanying partner, you MUST get consent from your parent or legal guardian to travel. We will not book any travel arrangements until we've received such consent."

10.07.06 Goodbye Tower Records:

Tower records has been purchased by the Great American Group. They will be liquidating Tower's inventory.

Five years from now, how many more record stores will be left in this country? I can't take my coffee to Amazon.com and browse the racks. What a bummer, hah?

10.06.06 Steve Edwards:

Pop / Rock / Alternative

Partial official description: "Steve arrived in the UK in 1996, a New Zealander, hungry to see the World and follow his music ambitions. Six months were spent working and travelling and while in India he learnt to play the guitar. From the very start songs flowed and though there have been a few air-bubbles, that flow has never stopped."

We really like Steve Edwards' songs 'The Man Who Fell', 'One By One', and 'Lovely' - all from his recent album, '1000 Miles From Sane' (2006, Anyway Records).

Pop / Electronica / New Wave

Official message: "If you have attended one of the many acoustic shows over the past year, you will have heard Howard Jones (and Robin) perform a number of brand new songs.

As ever, the problem with touring is that you never seem to have time to record the new songs for an album. So with that, Howard has put May 2007 into the diary to take time out and record the new album.

It is hoped that the album will be released towards the end of 2007."

        This Is The Voice

Agent Orange's 'This Is The Voice' album was originally released in 1986.

We love every single song on this release! You may recall some these great tracks: 'Voices In The Night', 'It's In Your Head', 'Bite The Hand That Feeds', 'I Kill Spies', 'In Your Dreams Tonight', and 'Tearing Me Apart'.

Unfortunately, "the mastering" of the cd version is not near the quality of the original cassette & LP.
