5.31.07 THIS GUY CHOSE VALIENT THORR OVER THE HOSPITAL
Psychedelic / Rock / Other
Partial official blog: "This is the story of James S., a 20 year old dude from Milwaukee. Back last year some time, I'm assuming around December judging from the stickers on the x-rays, we played in Beer City. I call it Beer City, 'cause that's what ya do there. It dawns on me now, that there might already be a real "Beer City," and I don't want to offend anyone.
Anyway... this kid comes up to us and he's hatin' it real bad... he tells us he's been hiding since the day before because there was no fucking way he was gonna miss Valient Thorr playin' this fucking theatre. And his buddies are all hyped, and it turns out that he fucking totally shattered his spine skateboarding... It was all crooked out, and just looked terrible. He was in bad shape. He definitely needed medical attention.
He was hiding from cops, school, friends, family... his mom was calling him off the hook. His phone was goin' off right in front of us... Cause they all knew he was hatin' it, and they wanted him to go to the goddamned hospital, but he was NOT fucking missing this show..."

5.31.07 MAR
Ambient / Alternative / Experimental
Official message: "For those of you that haven't heard, Kyle and the rest of the new Mar are going into the studio in 5 weeks to record Mar's second album!
Once again, this record will be released on Kyle's very own Ring Road Records... meaning they're getting no financing whatsoever to make this record, they're remaining completely independent!
We're not asking for donations or anything like that (unless you want to donate, then just let us know!). Instead we're just asking for help by encouraging you to either:
1. Purchase the $5 B-sides EP that is now for sale from the Mar Myspace page (at the very top of the page) and this cd is free shipping around the world!
myspace.com/silenticeland
Or 2. Purchase Mar's debut album that was recorded in Iceland in 2005, which is still selling more and more copies every month!! It is now $9 and free shipping from the Mar myspace page.
All of this profit will be going towards the new Mar record, which will be recorded this July, featuring members of Bright Eyes, Rasputina, Unwed Sailor, Soular, Bear Colony, Lovedrug, and more!!!!!
Thank you so much in advance to those of you who choose to help, and a huge thank you to those that already have!!! The new music sounds phenomenally beautiful... I can't even begin to describe... " E, management
5.31.07 GIRLY GIRL & MISC. BABBLE
I have to stay the hell away from Sephora.com! I am so use to spending money on bills, music and stuff for the house that I forgot what it's like to have girly things (like nice makeup and perfumes). I have enjoyed my last few visits to the mentioned website but I now see that it's becoming an addiction... I must highly recommend the Fresh Sugar Lemon eau de parfum they peddle. It's marvelous!
For the girls, lastly, check out this cute video clipof George Clooney being interviewed by Little Ant and Dec.

5.30.07 EMMA POLLACK
Alternative / Showtunes / Melodramatic Popular Song
"Emma Pollock this week releases her debut solo single 'Adrenaline' through 4AD: a powerful and striking introduction to her work as a solo artist. A vibrant and dynamic track brimming with confidence, 'Adrenaline' showcases Emma's effortless voice and superior song writing ability and her progression as a musician.
Backed with b-side 'A Glorious Day', a reworking of a poem by Brendan Cleary, the single reveals Emma at her best - highlighting her inspirations for writing and the organic nature of her songs. 'Adrenaline' is a gorgeous insight into what is to come from Emma Pollock. As one of the most inspirational and revered songwriters of our time with her band The Delgados, Emma has continued to write and record since the band called it a day and will release her full debut album, 'Watch the Fireworks' later in the year." - 4AD

5.29.07 MARK RONSON
Rock / Hip Hop / Soul
Mark Ronson caught our attention when we heard his version of 'Stop Me If You Think You've Heard This One Before' by The Smiths. Vocals are by Daniel Merriweather.
Of course you can't compare anything to the magnificence of The Smiths... you'll appreciate it more if you don't compare the two and just take it as a completely different interpretation. The near-end of the song melts into 'You Keep Me Hangin' On' (you know, the one originally recorded by The Supremes).
Mark's album, 'Version', is scheduled for a July 10th release.

Industrial / Trance / Metal
Partial official description: "Angels On Acid was founded by Michael Banks in 2003 with a heavy influence in Metal, Psychedelic Trance, EBM, Gabber, and Industrial. The creative vision was to merge all of the dark, aggressive styles of the last 20 years into a new genre of music that he calls Psybercore or Neurometal."

5.24.07 THE CASUAL LEAN
Indie / Pop / Rock
The Casual Lean was signed to Orange Peal Records earlier this year and will be releasing their new album, 'Swears', this July. We've heard a few of the new clips and really like the songs, 'The Bride Of Kirkenstein' and 'Keep It On'.

Also, check out their recent, self-released EP through iTunes.
5.24.07 THE REDLINE
Rock / Pop / Powerpop
Partial official description: "In between the rockstars too cool for everyone and the rockstars not cool enough for anyone comes The RedLine, a Chicago-based quartet that fuses elements of hard rock and pop to create a style all its own. Joining musical forces in February 2002 in hopes of creating powerful music appealing to both pop savants and rock fanatics, Kevin, Steve, Conor, and Andy have been able to do just that by valuing simplicity over complexity and relying on emotion rather than technique.
They are currently in the process of promoting their first full-length EP titled 'North & South'. The album will serve as a catalyst for the band to increase its visibility in and around Chicago, and then the country. The RedLine looks to play live any chance it gets in order to accomplish this task."
We saw these guys open for Kings of Leon last week and they were great. Lots of energy and great songs! We'll have a review for that show up later today. Check out their music by visiting

5.23.07 U.T. RAS

Partial official message:
"...Interpol is very excited and gearing up for their third release, 'Our Love to Admire'.
Here's an exclusive first look at the album artwork, featuring a scene in which a lion and lioness take down a gazelle in an act of synchronized predation. The album cover was shot by photographer Seth Smoot and designed by David Calderley.

The first single to be released from the album is the twisted love song/ode to Cali 'The Heinrich Maneuver'. Interpol is teaming up with Elias Merhige --best known for his work with Shadow of the Vampire and the cult-classic Nosferatu-- to shoot the video for this single.
'Our Love to Admire' will be available on Capitol on July 10th in the US and on July 9th internationally."

5.23.07 HANDSOME FURS NEW ALBUM, CANCELLED TOUR
Alternative / Other
Handsome Furs' new release, 'Plague Park' (Sub Pop), hit stores yesterday.
www.subpop.com
Official message: "Alexei here. I want to extend my whole-hearted regrets to those who were planning on coming to our US shows this week. We are so wholly disappointed that we could not play for you. Dan and I have both been wildly excited for this tour. Really.
We are already working on scheduling shows south of the border for the near future. We cannot wait until it works out.
I am very sorry for all who lost out on this. I assure you we feel equal measures of disappointment and loss.
In this last six months, the fists of the US Border Protection Services and The Department of Homeland Security have come down pummelling; making it extremely difficult for touring bands to enter the country. Our record label and booking agent are working hard to get us different visas that will allow us to reschedule the East Coast tour and perform dates out to the Mid-West in July.
Again, we are really upset. We were really looking forward to performing these songs in front of a US audience."

5.21.07 CARINA ROUND
Alternative / Indie / Rock
Partial official description: "No one could rightly accuse Carina Round of playing it safe. Listen to her first two dark, defiant albums. Hear that voice—that whisper to a wail to a wallop of a voice. Yet chances are you haven’t had the privilege—and that’s the point. There’s safety in obscurity, but with 'Slow Motion Addict', Carina Round is ready to tear it up into tiny pieces. "I had the chance to make a lot of self-indulgent music—I threw my toys out of my cot for ten years,” Carina explains. “Now it’s time to articulate what I want to say."
We love what we've heard so far from her new release, 'Slow Motion Addict'. Pre-order available through Amazon.com. It will hit stores across the U.S on June 5th.

5.21.07 IT’S DANGEROUS OUT THERE, OUR BABBLE
Went to Kings of Leon Friday night at The Rave, Milwaukee. Review to come Wednesday or thereabouts. Great show, great supporting acts.
However, in the hundreds of shows I have attended I can honestly say that I have never gotten so pissed off at the crowd. I got burned by cigarettes 3 different times, by three different men, who pounded their ways through the swarms of people.
Don't even get me started about the drinks I was covered in. I remained in the very back of the crowd the whole time mind you. Anyway, what really set me off were men who elbowed me several times in the boobs, shoulder blades, my sides, and my back, as they danced like they were standing barefoot on a raging fire - all of these men had forgotten there was no room to lift your arm to cover a sneeze. Didn't matter where I went in the room, these jackasses were everywhere.
Hey, don't think I'm not about having fun but what ever happened to being a gentleman, or hell, just trying to be a little considerate?
5.21.07 BEN + VESPER

5.18.07 THE OCEAN UPDATE
Metal / Progressive / Experimental
Official message: "NEW ALBUM recording progress - all the drums and most of the guitars for our new album have been recorded. We just got back from a barn in remote Northern Finland, where Torge, Matt and Robin spent the last 3 weeks in complete isolation, recording in shifts, day and night...
We are extremely satisfied with the result thus far, and we can assure you that our new album will get closer than ever before to capturing our real sound. Even without much editing, the drums sound huge! Still a long way to got though. The next months will be spent recording more guitars, bass, vocals, celloes, piano and other instruments. We're also working on an artwork concept." - The Ocean

5.15.07 IDIOM OF SAD
Ambient / Down-tempo / Trip Hop
Official description: "Elastic beats, ethereal vocals and down-tempo soundscapes fused together forming an atmospheric and haunting sound. Idiom of Sad is lead by Devi Gottschlich who demonstrates consistent beauty and emotion with her angelic vocal delivery and ability to create profound lyrics. The man behind the music is Nathan Reiner, creator of the Darkwave project Third Realm .
With influences such as Portishead and Massive Attack in mind, this duo add their own ingredients mending elements of trip-hop, shoegaze, ethereal and ambient music. This darkly sensual project is continuing to make it's presence heard backed by the soulful melodies and epic moods it demonstrates."
These guys have a great sound! Their tracks 'Cry To Angels', 'Pieces of Past Days', and 'Going Under' are unconventionally beautiful.

Black Metal
"Mayhem: This is Black Metal’s founding, longest running and most legendary band!
After a three year absence, the world’s most evil, infamous and important black metal band summons up the highly anticipated 'Ordo Ad Chao' (translation: Order from Chaos).
Featuring the return of vocalist Attila Csihar, who appeared on the band’s pivotal album 'De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas', this album will serve to strengthen the band’s legacy as they emerge more vicious and vital then ever. The weak bands currently plaguing the Black Metal scene are sure to be exposed and exterminated as 'Ordo Ad Chao' not only crowns 2007’s “Best of” lists but the “Best of All Time” lists as well." - Plastic Head

5.10.07 BOOING - OUR BABBLE
Earlier this week I was talking with some friends about booing at concerts. We all agreed that it is a horrible and cruel thing to do. Yet, we witness it far to often.
I recall a Violent Femmes show (yearrrrs ago) at the Aragon Ballroom in Chicago where the crowd went flippin' ballistic when the opening band started to play. Foul words and extreme booing came from like 60% of the crowd, no joke. We were stunned! We didn't like the band either but we, even being teenagers, would never participate in such utter meanness. The opening band was Dwight Yokum, not exactly the kind of band that the VF crowd was hoping for. It didn't take long for the band to leave the stage and fight, yes fight, with the crowd. I distinctly remember the overall-clad fiddler going apeshit with his fists. Security quickly got things under control.
But, can you imagine what that must feel like? To be rejected by not just one person but rather a crowd of hundreds?
I tried to find articles on the subject and came across a disciplinary but beautiful, heartfelt letter that John Frusciante (RHCP) wrote in response to a booing incident that took place at one of their shows - to an opening act of theirs. I'm not going to name the musician because there's no need to rub it in (I have to note that we totally dig his work too). John pretty much feels the same way, that it is completely cruel to do that to someone.
So, keep that in mind when you attend your next show. Recall what it was like to stand up in front of the whole class in high school for a presentation, or to sing that solo in church. We are all human and have feelings! If you don't like what you're hearing take a potty break or a walk around the building. - Stacy
5.10.07 THE ONLY CHILDREN
Rock / Indie / Roots Music
"What were The Only Children to do after a hellish six-week U.S. tour that featured a dysfunctional school bus and rendered frontman Josh Berwanger thousands of dollars in the hole? For the guitarist, vocalist, and founder of the Lawrence, Kansas-based outfit, he did the only thing he could: Berwanger cut his losses and mothballed the shop, boarding up the band’s metaphorical doors and windows.
The release of The Only Children’s striking sophomore effort, 'Keeper of Youth', finds Berwanger with hammer in hand, prying off the nails and re-opening for business." - Official website
We're totally diggin' their music and looking forward to the new album, 'Keeper Of Youth', which drops on May 22nd. In the meantime, check out great new songs like 'Tired Of This Town' and 'Amen Amen' by visiting:

5.8.07 WHAT'S NEW WITH THE ALARM
Official message: "... the band and I have just recorded the first EP for the Counter Attack album project and it sounds just like I imagined / hoped it would when I was conjuring up the songs. The first of the Counter Attack EP's is called 'Three Sevens Clash' and features seven brand new tracks that will literally explode from your speakers when the audio files launch in your disc drives........ The track listing is as follows:
1. The Opening
2. Three Sevens Clash
3. Fill In The Blanks
4. Zeros And Ones
5. Kill To Get What You Want [Die For What You Believe In]
6. Love Hope And Strength
7. Broadcast On Street Airwaves
In the next few weeks we will be announcing detailed information about 'Counter Attack' and how and when you will be able to get the music into your domain.
While we were recording, The Alarm MMVII were offered the chance to join a coast to coast tour of the USA with the Psychedelic Furs from July 1st to the 22nd. The tour is billed as 'Rockin The Colonies' and will also feature our old touring friends The Fixx. The tour will play to big audiences and take us to some prestigious US venues. The tour also gives the band and I the chance to replay the shows in Dallas, Austin and Houston, Texas that had to be cancelled when my son Dylan came into the world early in 2004 (see dates below).
The 'Rockin The Colonies' tour of the USA also provides the opportunity forour US fans to have a chance to see the band in concert which has not happened in North America for a very long time, (Twist has just taken up my invitation to make a guest appearance with The Alarm MMVII in San Francisco on July 15th). It will also be an opportunity to promote the soon to be reissued 'Spirit Of '86' UCLA Concert DVD which has been held back to accommodate audio commentary from all of the original members. An official release date will be set in the coming weeks once production has been completed.
I would also like to thank everyone who took part in Empire State Building Rocks. It was a momentous day in New York under the most difficult circumstances caused by the worst storm New York has experienced in one hundred years. The video (directed by Alex Coletti), has been watched literally thousands and thousands of times on You Tube and the audio track that features myself with Billy Duffy, Dave Wakeling and Slim Jim Phantom, was mixed by the legendary Tony Visconti (Bowie, T-Rex, Morrissey) who I last worked with on the 'Change' album sessions. All of this has really helped to raise awareness for the Love Hope Strength Foundation.
A day or so after I got back from New York, I was invited by BBC Radio 4 to record a new 'updated' version of 'Bells Of Rhymney' with brand new lyrics by Welsh poet - Patrick Jones [Brother of the Manic Street Preachers' Nicky Wire] at St. David's Church in Rhymney. The performance will appear in a radio programme dedicated to the anniversary of the song's first ever recording by Pete Seeger (the broadcast date will be announced on thealarm.com just as soon as we have it). The new lyric is every bit as good as the original Idris Davies poem, and I've got a sneaky feeling that a recording of the new version will appear on one of the Counter Attack EP's in the very near future.
I would also like to thank everyone who keeps writing in and asking, not only after my health, but in response to the national media coverage of the struggles that Jules and I went through to have children. it is great to know how much all of you care for me and my family. I'm glad to say that I am feeling fit and healthy in every way and my remission is holding firm. I am having a maintenance treatment of Rituximab (this was one of the drugs included in my chemotherapy regime), which I have administered every couple of months. The aim of the treatment is based on new papers that have been published in America recently which claim that continued exposure to Rituximab over a two to three year period just may lead to the eradication of Chronic Lymphocytic Leukaemia completely. On the home front, my new son Evan is four months old now and Dylan is three, I can't believe how fast life keeps on changing and how different the circumstances are for these upcoming concerts. At this time last year I was literally under attack, fighting for my life. Now I'm on the counter, moving forward and making the most of every new day.
I look forward to sharing in all our new adventures together. See you very soon." Love Hope and Strength, Mike Peters

5.7.07 LATTERMAN
Pop Punk / Experimental
Partial official description: "Latterman 'We Are Still Alive' Color Vinyl LP - Available Now!
'We Are Still Alive' will strike a resounding chord with the legions of fans who recognize Latterman's dedication to building something real. "If you think punk's dead / you haven't met our friends / they're always at it again and again" sings Latterman, reaffirming their hope about punk rock and its power to create community.
It's this search for a "home where we won't die alone," whether it lie in our hearts, in our hands or within our friends, that's the main theme on Latterman's third record. They never want to sing these songs alone... and with all the spirited anthems, thought provoking lyrics and fist-pumping choruses on 'We Are Still Alive', Latterman doesn't have a fucking thing to worry about. Bands like this don't exist anymore... so wake up, pay attention and feel alive." - Deep Elm Records

5.4.07 NO NAME TRAVIS
Official message: "Travis' 'The Boy With No Name': The new album, released on May 7th in the UK and May 8th in the US.
Having long been regarded as the trailblazers for the emotionally engaging pop anthem, they can truly claim, on their fifth album 'The Boy With No Name', to have re-discovered what made us love them in the first place. From the warm ambience of 'Closer' to the menacing harmony of 'Big Chair', the songs here carry a direct lineage from 'The Man Who' through to their present day contemporaries."

5.4.07 OUR BABBLE - WHINE, WHINE, WHINE
I'm sorry but I have given up on Milwaukee's 102.1 radio. When they changed their format last year it became way better! However, they've seem to have lost their spark. Stop playing 'How Soon Is Now' and start playing the gazillion other great Smiths songs out there! I use to love that song until it was covered and became the damn Charmed (TV show) theme and a 102.1 favorite. And so what if you play a song that isn't/wasn't a "single", if it's a good song all will be just fine!
So, I got satellite radio and although I am much happier now they too suffer from repetition. Especially Sirius' "First Wave" channel - I enjoyed that... for 2 days.
Not related... You will absolutely not believe this but:
1) I have never used or owned an iPod / MP3 player. I know.
2) Lately I have been buying albums again - despite having nothing to play them on.
3) All the speakers in my nice car are blown - for over a year now.
4) Yet, all I think about is how bad I want an ATV. I thought I was a 37 year old female who's obsessed with music. - Stacy

5.2.07 LE CHAT NOIR ROCKS!
Rock / Blues / Garage
Partial official message: "In the next month or so we will release our second album, 'Deadwood', through Garage Sale Records.
It will feature 13 brand new tracks, including some that you will have heard in demo form on our Myspace: 'Wedding Dress', 'Down By The River', 'Green Eyed Josephine', 'The Bone Collector' and 'The Scarlet Mistress'.
The overall feeling of the album is darker and more "mature" than 'Tales From Silver City', featuring a mix of the passionate garage rock that was a staple of our first album with more brooding, complex arrangements. Overall, if you enjoyed TFSS we think you'll love the new stuff!
Thanks to everyone for your support - it's the people who listen to our music who drive us to keep making it!" Teddy & Eileen -x- (Le Chat Noir)

5.1.07 DOGS
Indie / Rock / Punk
Partial official description: " 'Tall Stories From Under The Table’ was recorded with Steve Musters (PJ Harvey, Tricky, Tom Vek) at The Garden (Miloco Studios), with long-time fan Paul Weller guesting on ‘Let It Lay’.
Musters worked with Dogs to get the right individual sound for each track. “We were trying to get away from the punky and raw sound of the first album,” explains Rikki. “We didn’t want to make an album that had the same sound throughout. We have grown as a band and as people. The second album reflects that lyrically and musically, an expression of many different experiences both good and bad.” "
'Tall Stories From Under The Table' is set for a June 2007 release. Visit www.myspace.com/dogsmusicspace to check out one of their fantastic new songs, 'Dirty Little Shop'!
5.1.07 THE MUSIC OF ROBIN FOSTER IS ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS!
Ambient / Rock
Partial official description: "English born guitarist / songwriter, I started writing imaginary filmscores on my grandmother's piano as soon as the age of 5, realising I would never have the patience to learn the piano my mother bought me an electric guitar, which ever since I try to play like a piano...
At 16 I started gigging with various bands around the northwest, disillusioned and frustrated I went to university to study modern languages and moved to Brest, France for my year out - that was in '97, I'm still there!"
We stumbled upon Robin Foster's website and cannot put into words just how beautiful his music is!
Interestingly, we read that he has supported many well-known acts, including New Model Army! Despite us being hardcore NMA fans, we had no idea of the connection BUT are aware that NMA has great taste!
So, please take a few minutes to listen to some of Robin's music.
