1.31.08 OUR BABBLE
I stumbled across this old vid. I use to get a kick out of this song wayyy back in the day. The Fat Boys - 'All You Can Eat':
I can't believe how many band websites out there don't give adequate information about themselves. You gotta have a bio, list your show dates, say who is in the band and what they play, list your releases and how to get them, etc. This will also help those who wish to write about you!
My mother came up with what I believe to be a great film idea: There's a release of some faulty GPS systems... serial-killing GPS systems that is! They take you off on some crazy-ass roads and have you drive off of a cliff, or direct you to drive right into the center of the slums, etc.
This gets me thinking. GPS systems should start incorporating extra symbols on their maps when showing certain streets / areas... like a little red bandana to alert you of gang territory! - Stacy

1.30.08 NEW LOCAL H
Rock / Alternative / Other
Official message: "Local H to release new studio album on Shout! Factory. '12 Angry Months' in stores May 13, 2008...
Los Angeles, CA – Alternative rock mainstays Local H return with their seventh album on May 13, titled '12 Angry Months'. The band’s debut on Shout! Factory, '12 Angry Months' is Local H’s first new studio album since 2004’s 'Whatever Happened To P.J. Soles'?
Written after the bitter end of a long-term relationship, the album chronicles a full year of post-breakup experiences. Each track on '12 Angry Months' corresponds to a month, and deals with the range of emotions one encounters after love turns sour. Those emotions range from anger (“so, baby could you do me a favor? fall of the earth and i'll see you later”), to jealousy (“this is crazy, I can’t believe that you replaced me”), to acceptance (“you knew we'd never make it anyway”).
Highly regarded for their powerful sound and unique two-man lineup with Scott Lucas on vocals and guitar and Brian St. Clair on drums, Local H is known for derisive lyrics, heavy guitars and feedback, energetic live shows, and an active relationship with their fans. The band performs regularly, and will be on tour nationally in 2008.

1.23.08 YAZOO RETURNS!
Partial official message: "Yazoo - Reconnected,
June 2008. Vince Clarke and Alison Moyet to reunite for first UK shows in 25 years...
(They) have announced that they will reunite for the first time in over 25 years for Reconnected, a UK tour in June, starting in Glasgow on the 4th and culminating in a headline show at London's Hammersmith Apollo on the 18th. Tickets are available from 1st February direct from the venue or online at www.ticketmaster.co.uk / www.gigsandtours.com / www.livenation.co.uk.
The tour is preceded by 'In Your Room', a 4 disc box set which includes remasters and 5.1 mixes of both Yazoo's classic albums 'Upstairs At Eric's' and 'You And Me Both', b-sides and remixes and a DVD featuring a new short film containing exclusive new interviews with Vince Clarke and Alison Moyet and the promo videos for 'Don't Go', 'The Other Side Of Love', 'Nobody's Diary', 'Situation' (1990) and 'Only You' (1999).
The joyous, unlikely coming together of Vince Clarke, who had just left Depeche Mode, and Alison Moyet lasted for only 2 albums, saw them performing only 24 concerts worldwide, but left an indelible mark on pop. Yazoo released 'Upstairs At Eric's' in July 1982 then parted company just 12 months later on release of the second album 'You And Me Both', which reached Number 1 in the UK...
Says Vince Clarke: "It's been really good going back to these songs after such a long while. Many of them have never been played live. I'm looking forward to performing them with Alison for all the fans who've enjoyed our music through the years but never had a chance to see Yazoo in concert.""

1.22.08 CHECK OUT ADAM KENYON
Indie / Alternative
Official message: "Hey, there was a minor delay in the final steps of my EP, 'Grave', which I have been talking up for weeks now; saying that it will be posted shortly and blah, blah, blah, yada, yada; once again sounding like the loser boyfriend who keeps promising that he will marry you soon, but won’t set a date; but now I can say:
. . . IT IS FINISHED.
Which is really like a formal proposal if you think about it. It's me getting down on my knee, so please stop by MySpace and listen to 2 of the tracks,
'Who Else' and 'Cubicle Cowboy'. Please say, "Yes."
And in the same way that the ladies will proudly saunter from place to place, arm extended, showing everyone their engagement rings, bragging about them and telling the story, please post one of my songs on your profile (MySpace)." - @m (Adam) Kenyon

1.21.08 THE MISSION UK
Partial official news: "Hello. Well, both MarkGT and I have now arrived in the 'sunny' UK and we're all gonna meet up tomorrow (today) at a residential rehearsal studio near Bath to start rehearsals for the tour. Looking forward to it but it is gonna be an intense two weeks of rehearsals. There is a lot of songs for us to (re) learn. I'm sure our drummer Springy is gonna be in note hell... and all our brains are gonna get fried with information overload. As Mark says, we're not as young as we used to be so our power of retention ain't gonna be what it once was. Yeah, I know, I could never remember all the words anyway.
Anyway, just wanted to mention a couple of things. Firstly, Petra (who has run a German Mission website for years) has set up a new semi-official 'Wayne Hussey' website. You can have a look here: www.waynehussey.de.
Next, Jeremi Sauvage, a long time French Mission fan, has just completed his Mission biography, 'Le Jardins Des Delices'. Unfortunately, it is only presently being published in French but I do know that Jeremi is looking for someone to translate it into English for future publication. Anyone interested should contact Jeremi directly at: jeremi.sauvage@yahoo.fr. I also know that Jeremi intends to sell some copies of the book at our two French shows...
I also want to let you know that I'm selling a guitar and Mark is selling a cab after the tour. You can find the details on our forum on www.themissionuk.com. And lastly, my first solo album 'Bare' has now gone into production and we will have copies to sell on the tour. Initially at least this will be the only place you will be able to purchase a copy. I'll let you have full details nearer the start of the tour.
And lastly, I have just received a copy of the Dead Guitars new CD, 'Airplanes', and I have to tell you that it is a wonderful album. So get to the shows early and make sure you catch them. I'm sure they're gonna be great.
We'll let you know over the next few days how rehearsals are going and how big Springy's mountian of notes are... See you soon." Love, Wayne (Hussey)
1.21.08 PASCALE PICARD
Folk / Pop / Punk
"Already considered one of the years ('07) hottest discoveries, Pascale Picard is at the center of this dynamic young collective. From the hint of a smile to the darkest fury or the deepest melancholy, we catch a glimpse of the boldness of this daring young songwriter as she deftly weaves modern folk-pop colours through alternative textures. The result is solid compositions, firmly rooted in rock. Intensity and complexity in a voice worthy of attention!" - Official website
We've just finally got a listen of the whole 'Me, Myself, & Us' release and we love it! Biggest highlights are the tracks, 'Gate 22', 'Smilin', and the intense 'Annoying'. 'Annoying' is currently being offered as a free download - see link below.

1.17.08 SKEETAZ
Breakbeat / Down-tempo / Techno
Official news: "Skeetaz - 'Off' (New album may cause allergic reaction):
Hard at work in the Peruvian Amazon, Skeetaz are buzzing freely, yanking aural synthetic inspiration from the local animalia kingdom and integrating them directly into their beetle-powered Commodore 64s. The long hours, sweat, constant rain, and lyme disease have lended immensely to the psychedelic zonked-out basslines and wood-sprite hop-jobs that emit aurally from their homemade palm-leaf speakers.
Now, they present their first full length attack: 70+ minutes of musical Malaria infecting yer synapses and destroying any sense of rhythm you thought you had. Symptoms include incessant twitching, and it ain't pretty.
Available now at www.addictech.com (samples available). Get yous some lotion."

1.15.08 NEW DIE FORM
Electronica / Experimental / Industrial
'Bach Project' out Feb. 5th:
Official news: "For more than 25 years, Die Form's artistic appeal has been their seamless fusion of music, photography, performance, and experimental film. This can be seen through their diverse fan group ranging from lawyers to laborers and from students to artists. Their haunting compositions have always exhibited classical nuances while remaining rooted in advanced electronics.
In 2007, Die Form was invited to perform a selection of Johann Sebastian Bach's works re-arranged as an audio-video show at the Bach Fest in Leipzig, Germany. The response to their interpretation of Bach was so overwhelming, that it warranted a CD release. 'Bach Project' is 13 selected pieces of Bach's work created using organic, electronic, and neo classical elements with experimental structures, classical harmonies, and vocals. The marriage of Die Form's music and Bach's compositions is something that cannot be imagined, only experienced." - Metropolis

1.14.08 UNTO ASHES
Gothic / Folk / Black Metal
Official message: "Winter's inspiration is upon us. We are pleased to report that we have been writing new songs and recording tracks. It has been a wonderfully prolific time, and we are very pleased with some of the enchanting
madrigal folksongs that have enveloped us like an early morning mist.
Furthermore, we find ourselves hopelessly infected by an unusually
wide variety of curious melodies and rhythms; the viruses include
oriental, medieval and military strains, and we look forward to
passing them on to you.
And so a new Unto Ashes album is underway, to be released perhaps in late Summer or early Autumn. As we progress in the recording process
we will make new songs available for free download.
Meanwhile, we are pleased to report that in Spring a new, unreleased
Unto Ashes track will appear on the forthcoming 'Radio Rivendell Vol.
2' compilation, published by Sweden's Waerloga Records and Radio
Rivendell. This CD is destined to be a very special collection of
fantasy inspired "battle music," with every song exclusive for the compilation. It is likely that fans of dark ambient, orchestral,
neo-folk, and fantasy music will very much enjoy this compilation." - Michael L.

1.9.08 OUR BABBLE - GET A GRIP
It's the year of Webkins, and God knows what other inventions, and yet there are no handles on large toilet paper and paper towel packages? I cannot be the only person in this scary country ripping through these darned things, dropping them and tripping over them as I desperately try to get them into the house from my car. My husband says to thank Sensenbrenner (a "haha" as he's heir to the Kimberly-Clark fortune). Sounds good to me, he's already on my list.
Just reviewed the debut release from Tanner Horn & The Astronauts Before Breakfast. It's awesome!
1.9.08 THE DARK ROMANTICS
Alternative / Pop / Rock
The Dark Romantics are a new favorite of ours! 'She's A Fire' and 'That's When I Fall' are fantastic with their somewhat unusual and layered melodies. Really gorgeous and fresh. 'Of Loving Me' is completely infectious and demands you to shake your groove thing, or whatever you happen to call it.
Listen now: myspace.com/thedarkromantics!
*Watch for a new album in mid 2008!

Official message: "Springdusk's 'Pierced by Mournful Memories'. True, cold, talented doom metal from Sweden!
This album represents years of grief, anger and pain of a human mind; regarding both music and lyrics. It reflects dismal memories which keeps on destroying the very few gleams of hope that the future might bring." -Ekleipsi

1.4.08 STAROFASH
Experimental / Ambient / Electronica
Official message: "The fantastic 'The World Spins For You', from the new StarofAsh album has been posted on the Candlelight MySpace. Listen to it at this location (myspace.com/candlelightrecords).
Behind the name StarofAsh (Star of Ash) is musician and songwriter Heidi Solberg Tveitan, also known as Ihriel from the experimental metal act Peccatum. After several years of releases and tours in Europe and USA with Peccatum, she debuted as a solo artist in 2001 with the record 'Iter.Viator' (Jester Records/VME). In the years following 'Iter.Viator' she has been busy with the last Peccatum releases, the Hardingrock project and have together with Vegard Tveitan been running the production company Mnemosyne and Symphonique Studio. In addition to this she has actively worked with band tutoring and concert arranging for youth in her local community.
The debut album 'Iter.Viator' was described as a melancholic movement over strings, guitars, keyboards, drums and voices, resulting in a fine blend of esoteric rock and soundtracks. It pushed the boundaries of traditional genre categorization and instrument usage, while remaining true to a soulful pattern that is Heidi’s alone.
On her upcoming album, 'The Thread' (Candlelight Records/Mnemosyne Productions), Heidi’s collaborators include the German musician and composer Markus Reuter and the Japanese cyber-punk writer Kenji Siratori. Musically this album explores new ground in instrumentation and structure, yet continues the cinematic and elegant atmosphere of previous recordings. Over constantly changing sonic sceneries, the compelling melody is still the leading thread from beginning to end." - Candlelight Records

1.4.08 OUR BABBLE - RINGTONES BY HARRY WINSTON
Good God. What would we ever do without ringtones? Seriously. Because there's so much reference to them thrown at everyone daily, so they must be the shit. Call me cheap, I prefer to pay for full length downloads personally. Yes, that means that I use the ringtones that come with my phone, and because I hate the phone I don't pay attention to it ringing anyway.
Dave (my husband) & I are psyched to hear there's a Speed Racer movie coming out soon! Although, my favorite cartoons were Casper and Mr. Magoo.
I love cheese but know little about it. However, I am recommending Rambol Kirsch Gourmandise. It's a French spreadable cheese with a very slight cherry flavor.
Lastly, I will never understand why musicians choose to cover the Phil Collins song, 'Against All Odds'. Why? It is one of the worst songs ever! No disrespect to Mr. Phil - he's without doubt a fantastic musician. Plus, he's done some work with Adam Ant, including drums on 'Strip', so...
- Stacy

1.22.08 Richard Filaccio:
Alternative / Acoustic / Rock
Partial official message: "I have a new song, a sad song, a war-themed song... In the US we are in a war, and to pretend we are not killing and being killed every day is to live in a dream. My song, 'Saving Soldier Sadie' is about someone trying to undo the damage done to his loved one." - Richard Filaccio
At very first listen I wasn't sure what to make of the melodies but they quickly grew on me. I just love how unusual this song sounds - its layers are modern meets classic, the vocals are pleasant and interesting, the lyrics have depth, and despite the topic it manages to have an upbeat feel to it.
