8.30.07 WHAT HAPPENED TO RACHEL STAMP?

Alternative / Metal / Powerpop

Official message: "The truth is that Rachel Stamp doesn't really exist as a band any more, although there's never been an official 'split'.

I started the band way back in 1995, moving to London from my native country of Wales to pursue my Rock n' Roll dream. Rachel Stamp were very successful as a 'cult' band, selling out gigs around the UK for ten years and having three Independent Chart top ten albums. We also toured throughout Europe and the USA. About two years ago we decided to go our separate ways to pursue new creative ventures.

The popularity of Rachel Stamp keeps growing and growing, especially in the USA which means we constantly have new fans through MySpace who are digging the music and vibe of the group.
myspace.com/rachelstamp

Sadly there's no new Stampmusic on the horizon but we are still making music in our various new bands (you can find them in our 'friends' list). We keep getting asked to 'reform' and play shows but I don't really see that happening as Rachel Stamp was very much about vitality and revolution and the moment. Thank you, lovefreedomglamour." - David Ryder Prangley

8.28.07 SPARKS RE-RELEASE

‘Introducing Sparks’, the new Sparks re-release, hits stores on November 5th (Lil’ Beethoven Records).

Partial official message: "'Introducing Sparks', originally released in 1977, is the seventh album by Sparks and the only one of their 20 long-players not available on CD. Until now – the duo’s own label, Lil’ Beethoven Records, are putting it out in November. Finally, you can hear the much-discussed but rarely heard transitional album from Ron and Russell Mael’s near-40-year career.

David Bowie wasn’t the only chameleonic figure in ‘70s rock. And so 'Introducing Sparks' finds the Mael brothers, together with an array of top session musicians (mirroring Donald Fagen and Walter Becker of Steely Dan in this respect), caught between the innovative glam-prog-pop of their four early-to-mid-‘70s Island albums ('Kimono My House', 'Propaganda', 'Indiscreet', 'Big Beat') and the audacious proto-electro of their 1979 collaboration with Giorgio Moroder ('No 1 In Heaven').

'Introducing Sparks' was their first and only album for Columbia, who pushed the boat out at the time by releasing it on red vinyl. They also spared no expense when it came to the recording, allowing or perhaps encouraging Ron and Russell to engage the cream of LA’s backing singers and session guns for hire. Just as the front and back cover of the album presents our heroes as faux matinee idols, all soft focus and airbrushed perfection, so 'Introducing Sparks' has a polished, slick, sophisticated big-budget sound that reflects the record company’s desire to get the Mael’s music on the radio...

...'Introducing Sparks' will be available with two catalogue numbers:

LBRCDRON – Ron Mael on front cover and LBRCDRUS – Russell Mael on front cover."

8.27.07 PETER & THE PENGUINS

Pop / Rock / Indie

"In Peter & the Penguins three "generations" of Norwegian musicians have gathered round the early sixties- and Merseybeat sound... Peter & the Penguins presents original material, and some obscure covers, with the early sixties' distinctive character; cheerful and energetic pop-rock, tight harmony singing, and jangling guitars: Where the f... have I heard this before?" - Official website

As long as this music is playing, you will find that the time machine you've been working on so diligently, and secretively, actually works! But remember... once you go black back there's no turning back!

8.24.07 WHITE HOT KNIFE

Indie / Rock / New Wave

"Somewhere in the cold and windy Chicago night a new musical movement is gaining momentum. Smooth as silk yet tough as nails, White Hot Knife’s romantic sound is defined by thundering beats that are designed to capture and hypnotize. Chic bass driven melodies and angled patterns of fluttering guitar are bringing this sound to the forefront of the indie rock scene. White Hot Knife has emerged from the ashes of former hardcore and electronic projects to create a sound that blends eroticism with dark pop elements in a way never seen before." - Official website

Earlier this year they released the 'White Hot Knife' EP. We love the tracks 'Speakeasy', 'The Plastic Connection' and 'Pedastals'!

8.23.07 ENGELMACHER

Electro / Industrial / Electronica

"Engelmacher continues to thrive as 2007 brings forth another chapter within the Engelmacher realm. After the release of their debut album 'Birds of a Feather', Engelmacher has been working tirelessly on two upcoming releases which shall prove to be essential to the evolution of Engelmacher's approach to electro-industrial as well as the "anti-government" content which fuels it.

Engelmacher shall continue to push the political envelope and unleash an onslaught of politically driven electro-industrial which they use to reach the collective minds of humanity." - Official website

8.22.07 STONE WALTERS

Soul / Funk / Rock

"Born and raised in South London to German and Jamaican parents, Stone (Walters) began studying classical piano at the age of seven and also remembers being heavily influenced as a child by the hypnotic rhythms of reggae and ska coming from the halls of Britain’s black Pentecostal churches, which his family attended...

“Attending church as a kid was like having my own version of Jamaica right in the heart of South London! On weekends I’d be there and during the week I’d be listening to the sounds of British soul artists such as Soul II Soul, Mica Paris and Don-E on the TV and radio, while trying to sneak in American R&B and Beatles records past the watchful eye of my father!” " - Official website

We are very exited about Stone's upcoming debut album, 'This Is Not A Cover', after hearing his song 'Trouble' (it's that good!). "I'm in the studio at the moment finishing up my album," Stone told us. 'This Is Not A Cover' is due to hit stores this Autumn.

8.16.07 SAY IT ISN'T SO! BLACK WIRE CALL IT QUITS!

Indie / Alternative / Other

We're completely crushed. We at Babble and Beat are big fans of Black Wire and feel this news is tragic indeed:

Partial official message: "I never thought I'd be doing this. I've written this first line several times and deleted it every attempt.

I've sat here trying to comprehend writing an obituary for the single most beloved thing in my life and for every emotion that may be coursing through my veins I can't find a single word, mumble, utterance or sob that conveys how I feel while I'm up these walls and down this well.

There are no smart words, picturesque analogies or romantic ramblings that can replace or cover up pure heart felt emotion, and so the simple, the most direct, honest and throat choked way I can say what I want is this........... I am empty and heartbroken that Black Wire have had to disband." Tom xxx

8.14.07 SKYTONE

Partial official description: "Dim the lights, light a candle and watch 'Echoes in All Directions' start spinning in your CD player. When you close your eyes a nostalgic feeling invades your conscience and, with amicable ambiance, opens a portal to a blissful state where you are completely free, nurtured solely by the sounds and poetry that gracefully meld into art (something more musical). You become a part of the music; and it’s a feeling so great you don’t want the first song to end. But then you discover the next song brings you to the same place. And the next..."

Honeygene is Phil's collaboration with his daughter, Charlie. "As father and daughter, they’ve always had a special musical connection, but really only started writing together as Honeygene in July 2006, when they wrote ‘Perfect Harmony’ for Phil’s mum / Charlie’s grandma, Nesta Allen when it became known that she had terminal cancer. Nesta was the source of Phil and Charlie’s inspiration, being a lifetime concert pianist herself, piano teacher and always supporting their musical endeavours."

8.9.07 GUSTER DOES FARM AID

Alternative / Other

Partial official message: "Soon our band will have more in common with Willie Nelson than just our love for organically-enhanced diesel fuels. We will be sharing the stage together in New York City on September 9th as a part of this year's Farm Aid concert at Randall's Island, which benefits small farmers in the United States.

And by "sharing the stage together" I don't just mean one of us playing after the other. I mean one of us playing a good six hours after the other. Good news is you have Neil Young, Counting Crows, Dave Matthews, Matisyahu, John Mellencamp, and lots of others to entertain you inbetween. And you're performing a mitzvah if you attend. As Mellencamp says: "If people eat, they should come out and support Farm Aid." " - Guster farmaid.org

8.8.07 TONY VISCONTI, RECORD PRODUCER

Out now! 'The Record Producers' - Tony Visconti...

Official message: "Tony Visconti is one of the most important and influential music producers of the last 40 years. Born in Brooklyn in 1944 he developed an early passion for music and after various attempts to make it as an artist he moved to the UK where there were "arcane studio secrets know only to the British." He was soon to be one of the architects of the Glam Rock revolution working with Marc Bolan and T Rex but it is perhaps his work with David Bowie which truly established Visconti as one of the worlds most in demand Record Producers.

This collection of 17 tracks from the Visconti archives is a fitting tribute to the scale and scope of his work. The album includes gems such as the French version of Bowie's 'Heroes' (never before released on CD), the original Mercury single of the Bowie track 'The Prettiest Star', the Bowie / Bolan / Visconti written & recorded 'Dib Cochra' track 'Oh Baby', the rare Surprise Sisters version of the Beatles track 'Got To Get You Into My Life' plus T Rex glam stompers 'Telegram Sam' and 'Metal Guru' along with more recent works such as the Morrissey track 'You Have Killed Me' and the Visconti arranged Mercury Rev track 'Chains'."

8.8.07 YORICK

Goth / Rock / Opera

We're digging this video (yorick.se/video/Yorick-Flight.wmv) by Yorick. It's refreshing to see an artistic yet low-budget (ie: anything under $500,000) video these days. It's only very slightly creepy, more 'in another time and place' and romantic.

Plus, we are also going to have cuts by many other artists who you likely know, including Posies members Jon Auer, Ken Stringfellow, Joe Skyward, and Brian Young.

Please don't forget to buy 'Sensory Lullabies,' but you might want to become friends with these two MySpace pages, as well: myspace.com/theposiestributealbum and myspace.com/triplefastactiontributealbum." Cheers, Alan (Burning Sky Records)

8.2.07 OUR BABBLE - ROCK MEMORIES

My husband, Dave, and I were just reminiscing about the good ole days when we were in our late teens to early twenties. We were always in Chicago or in DeKalb, Illinois. We ran into Chuck Uchida of The Defoliants everywhere back then! He was ALWAYS riding the same bus as us in Chicago. He'd always have on a Hawaiian shirt too. Oddly though, if we were in DeKalb, he was hanging out at the same house as well. Our paths crossed all of the time.

I remember one Peace Fest (Chicago) in particular where I got to share a lawn blanket with Naked Raygun because I had just met one of the girls in the Sex Kittens (or something like that) and we hit it off. This girl was dating one of them. God, that turned out to be an extra cool day!

I went to the Interpol show in Milwaukee a couple of nights ago. It was awesome! Read the review and see live pictures HERE. -Stacy

Partial official message: "Me, Micah, Todd and a six pack of Stella Artois in the studio tonight. We're just preparing tracks for a drum practice session tomorrow - in preparation for a drum recording session later in the month.

What's really funny is that we're doing the practice at CB Sound - where we recorded our second record (Losing Sleep). It will be the first time any of us have been back since making the record - so it should be quite fun." - The Muckrakers

We will also be visiting some of the countries we have been to before, as well as some that we have yet to visit...

To clear up a few things:

1. 'Time' is on Timbaland's album and will not be on our new album.

2. 'Spend the Night' and 'Black Liner Run' were B-sides and will not be on the new album." - She Wants Revenge

8.1.07 Robbers:

Indie / Jungle / Other

Sometimes surreal and ambient, other times they rattle you... Robbers offer subtle vocals to what often sounds like a warped sixties album's landscape.

8.1.07 The Aislers Set:

Indie / Pop / Other

We're new to the band The Aislers Set and are finding we really like them. They're different. The vocals are somewhat reminding of Aimee Mann's and the melodies are often an unusual combination of styles.

'Emotional Levy' and 'What Fades First' are just a couple of the many songs we've enjoyed.

         FAITH NO MORE
          The Real Thing

Rock / Experimental / Other

Faith No More certainly has its legions of fans. However, it is our opinion that they never really got the embracing they deserved. If you do not own this CD we highly recommend acquiring one!

There are many highlights on this 1989 release: 'From Out of Nowhere', the largely popular 'Epic', 'Zombie Eaters', 'The Real Thing', 'The Morning After', their take on 'War Pigs', and 'Edge of the World'.
