8.31.06 STEREOPHONICS UPDATE FROM KELLY
Official blog: "How the devil are you all?
It's been a while. There's a lot of things happening right now, so just to let ya know we're still alive, I'll run them by you.
Ireland Grouse Lodge studio session went very well. We got through over ten songs. A lot of fun was had. They had Guinness on tap. The Guinness family live just up the road. We would pull our own pints at the end of the garden and mark it down in the book to pay at the end. With it being that convenient, we did so every night at midnight.....until we fell over into slumber.
It was a great ten days, especially August the 1st, ten years after signing off the dole on to the dotted line of a record contract. That day was messy. We spoke to everyone on the phone from 1996 onwards to say hello and raise a glass, me and Stuart being talking lately too, we bumped into each other in a toilet in Shepherds Bush Empire a while ago and drank together till the morning hours. This week he was telling me about his ringleader outfit he had to wear presenting the Kerrang awards. So the anniversary went well.
The songs are rocking yet different from the last album and it seems they have pretty big choruses. We go back into the studio mid September for another two weeks and continue working on the sound of the record. The songs are there, but we want the record to have a big sound that translates anywhere, so rather than do this record the typical way in one big batch of time, taking breaks in between to analyse it, is working well.
Everyone has been having time doing their own thing, catching up with friends and having a good time going out. We realised, we haven't had much chance to do that in ten years apart from at the end of one of our gigs...which means most people are five hours drunker than you are, which frankly is a bore.
Going to see bands and not playing ourselves has been a refreshing change, not that I saw much more than the inside of the Warner Bros tent at Reading Festival.....myself and my mate Brad (who does the Footswitch mixes) had a lost three days. They watered us well. Pearl Jam and Primal Scream and the Arctic Monkeys were great....The Fall were pretty cool too in a really odd dark way....The Kooks album is fucking great, and as much as I tried to get into that tent to see them, laughing and taking pics with people, we aborted the mission, bought sausage chips and gravy and pissed ourselves laughing listening from afar.
All of us went to the Stones gig. Ronnie invited us along. It was a great gig and we had a ball back at Ronnie's house for the annual party. Before the gig, Javier was blown away when I led him into Ronnie's dressing room, who lead us into Keith's dressing room where we watched them play tracks off 'Exile On Main Street' warming up before the gig, ten yards in front of us. Keith was cool as fuck wearing his baseball type cap with a skull and cross bones on it. To see the Stones rehearse in front of you like that is a ridiculous situation and a privilege.
I'm going to LA at the beginning of September. I've written a short film, which I'm trying to develop. I will be shooting a read through scene out there with Dougray Scott, a fan and friend of mine for a number of years, he was really into the story and the idea, so that should be a blast and a new experience for me which I'm nervous and excited about.
So now I'm gonna lift, shift, and drift back to obscurity and love you and leave you until the next time.
Have fun and be merry." Kelly x (Stereophonics)

8.31.06 HOPE OF THE STATES BREAK UP
Indie / Rock
Official message: "I guess that many of you already know, but Hope Of The States have decided it is the right time for us to go our separate ways. I guess that many of you would like to hear reasons behind our decision, and I guess people expect tales of infighting or external forces weighing heavy upon us...... unfortunately such drama has eluded us. I guess we just decided it was the right time- time for us to walk away with our heads held high and the fire still in our eyes.
I would like to start by saying sorry that I have not been able to reply to any of your comments or answer any of your questions since this news accidentally leaked last weekend. We had never wanted our last shows to be thought of as such, we merely wanted to put our all into them as we had with every other thing we ever did. All of the songs we wrote and played will always have a special place within me, and I have to say that the thought of playing the songs for the very last time on Sunday brought many a sickly feeling to our stomachs and many tears to our eyes. We will always have the permanent marks on our arms as reminders of these very special times in our lives. I could list all of the amazing experiences I have had but there is not enough space to write them all. Most of all we leave behind two albums that we hope people will continue to love, and that other people will continue to discover.
I would like to thank every single one of you that I have met, and very single person who supported us through the highest and lowest points of our lives. We have been through alot and I am glad that you people were there with us all the way- I will be forever grateful. Reading the comments left by all of you on these pages has left me dumbstruck... I am just so glad that what we worked so hard on and believed in so deeply has had such an effect on so many people. We really did create our own little community didn't we!
I bid you all farewell for now with a teary eye and a smile on my face....Thank you one and all." Simon xxxxx

8.30.06 UPDATE FROM THE FABULOUS PATTI SMITH
Official message: "I am just writing to say
I have been working more on the website
and will be making some changes in the next week.
I had been kind of negligent for a while as I did a lot
of traveling and have had a lot on my mind.
But I promise to be more active.
I am adding another version of Qana on the site.
Just a live late night practice tape.
I mispronounced it when I did it myself but it was the
only version I had and I thought the sentiments were more
important than the pronunciation. I have a penchant for
mispronouncing, so sorry about that.
So I hope you will check the site out. I will try to put new stuff up
every day or two. It's a good communication base. Hope to see
you there. Well I've got to go clean out the refrigerator. A good idea is
to put an open new box of Arm and Hammer baking soda on one
of the shelves. It cuts odors. Not that I'm implying anything. All good wishes." - Patti Smith

8.29.06 JESSE PINTADO HAS PASSED AWAY
We're sorry to report that Jesse Pintado of Terrorizer and Napalm Death fame died August 27th. Here are some heartfelt messages we've come across:
Official statement: "I am very sad and upset about this news. Jesse was like a brother to me and we were very close for many years. For now, I feel the most sadness and compassion for his family, that loved him dearly, and tried with all their heart to help Jesse redirect his future.
I suppose I feel more anger and frustration than anything, as Jesse was gifted with people who loved and cared about him. Jesse was equally blessed with many companions around the world, and I am sure that many people share the same emptiness at this moment.
Now all that I can do is to try and remember the great times we shared together, and hope that Jesse has somehow found peace in his own mind and soul.
Thanks ever so much for all of your kind words and concerns." - Mitch Harris (Napalm Death)
Official statement: "We are all shocked and saddened by the passing of Jesse Pintado. Our deepest condolences go out to his family and friends. REST IN PEACE." - Cannibal Corpse

8.24.06 ELECTRIC SIX VIDEO CONTEST
Official message: "By now, you've seen the official video for Electric Six's 'I Buy The Drugs,' so you know where we're coming from. However, we're interested to see what you, the fans, are capable of doing with this song in video form. So, we're holding a contest over at the official E6 MySpace site to determine who can make the best fan video for 'I Buy The Drugs.'
With the magic of YouTube and with the song available for digital download via ITunes, Napster, Rhapsody, etc., it should be a simple process. The contest begins now and will close on September 8th. Send a link to your video for 'I Buy The Drugs' to the MySpace site, and we'll post the three best efforts right there on the front page. In addition to the massive amount of fame to be generated from winning, the lucky three will also receive the following:
- an autographed copy of "Switzerland," signed by all the band members
- an "I Buy The Drugs" t-shirt
- free admission for you and a guest to the gig of your choice on the upcoming 'Swiss Vengeance' tour (check tour listings on this page for dates and venues, and sorry, but we can't get underaged folks into any 21+ shows, much as we'd like)
When you submit the link to your fan video, please also include an email where you can be contacted and your age, in order for us to verify that you'll actually be able to attend the show, should you win.
Let the games begin!"

8.22.06 WEEN MESSAGE & NEW ALBUM UPDATE
Official message: "Hey there. We just got back from the major chunk of our summer tour. I'd like to thank all of the people who came out, it was a lot of fun for us, pretty much every gig was a total blast. We got to see some beautiful towns that we'd never played, and the shows with the Flaming Lips were completely over the top. We have 4 gigs remaining, possibly until the end of the year.
We have about 40 new songs that we wrote and recorded since the beginning of the year and we are now gonna focus all of our attention on completing the new Ween album. As much fun as it is playing shows, we really need to dedicate time to finishing this record.
Please check the tourdates page for ticket info on these last 4 gigs. Two of the shows are State Fairs (NY, PA) and the show will be Sonic Youth/Ween/Flaming Lips, in that order. If anyone has any good pictures from the tour I'd like to see them. Danke."

8.19.06 NITZER EBB'S RECENT RELEASE
Official message: "The original EBM duo, Nitzer Ebb cut a dynamic swathe through the Hard Beat/Industrial Music/EBM scene of the 1980's and 90's with their teutonic beats and aggressive sound characterized by powerful rhythms, minimal sequenced hooks and fierce, chanted lyrics. They were one of the original electro-punks before the genre even existed.
Now they return with long overdue Double Disc collection 'Body of Work 1984-1997' bringing together all 19 of their hit singles on Disc 1 together with Classic Remixes, Exclusive B-Sides and Rare tracks on Disc 2. 'Body of Work 1984-1997' delivers a timely reminder of one of the most influential and ground breaking acts of the EBM / Underground Electronic scene. Essential for any EBM fans collection. Genre: Electro." -Metropolis
This album was released in June but somehow went unnoticed by many. So, now you know.

Being lifelong friends/brothers, Dirty Kanvus have developed a passion and vision to create music. Their sound is a breath of fresh air and is sure to get free into the waiting world. We like their lightly distorted version of 'Enjoy The Silence' by Depeche Mode. We also really like their original songs, 'Come Celebrate' and 'Jacqueline Jones'.

COF: Metal / Gothic / Black Metal
Angtoria: Metal / Classical

8.18.06 SPEAR OF DESTINY UPDATES FROM KB
Official message: "Fiends, Romans and Countrymen, lend me your ears for I have need of them.......
I have just returned from a wonderful time in old country Ireland with my
daughter who flew in for the occasion. Great do nothing times. I also had my
birthday bash there and amazingly stayed sober throughout. Awful I know......the best layed plans of ice and men etc.
I returned to England to deal with reality.....an old friend asked me to do
a show with his band The Four Guns who had reformed for a few one-offs
here and there. I said yes. It turned out to be good fun and a chance to see
if I could still do it as a 'one-man band'. To say playing solo is a
challenge would be absolutely true, and it was in this case as per....
There was 200 people there and it went down very well. Thank you
Brighthelmston.
'Spear Of Destiny Re-Animation Tour':
This ghastly Tour starts from around the end of November going into
December. This Tour will be to promote the most recent sickening album
'Loadestone'.
I know most of the hardcore soldiers have this album already, and the
accolades they have given it I have to say firstly, have been greatly
appreciated. But this Tour will help to bring a really important album to
the attention of people who in all probability don't check in on the various
websites and simply just come out to enjoy a night of malice and mischief
with SPEAR in their hometowns and cities.
I have to say, I am really looking forward to playing the music of evil
SPEAR again after this extended break. It will put some fire, fear and
adrenaline back in the blood. So, when the dates are finally finalised, very shortly I'm informed, spread the word......
the EVIL SPEAR will be back on the roads of the former republiks of the U.K.
!!!!!
Chain wives to their beds, lock children in cupboards, and tell them begin
praying to whatever god they believe will save them....for the SPEAR passes
by their door.......who knows who it will take this time.... who among them
all, will live to see the hateful year of 2007."

8.16.06 THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE QUEEN
Live At The Electric Proms:
Official message: "The BBC today announce their Electric Proms season at London's Roundhouse. The line-up includes The Good, The Bad and The Queen, a new project featuring Damon Albarn, Paul Simonon, Tony Allen and Simon Tong. Tickets for the 26th October gig go onsale at 10am on Wednesday 16th of August, priced £15 and can be found at www.bbc.co.uk/electricproms or www.roundhouse.org.uk (£1 booking fee per ticket), or by phone from the Roundhouse box office on 0870 389 1846 (£2.50 booking fee per ticket).
DAMON ALBARN: The Good The Bad and The Queen, it's... it's a story, it's not a band. I'm very very proud of this record and I think it's worth while putting it out. It's a very English record, it's the first time I've really written about home, since sort of Parklife. I've always wanted to play the Roundhouse. You know, I love the idea that you have to be something that hasn't been heard before.
Damon Albarn (Blur/Gorillaz) began working with Tony Allen and Simon Tong (The Verve) in 2002. Damon introduced Paul Simonon (The Clash) to Tony and Simon in 2005 and the four began work on The Good, The Bad and The Queen.
The Good, The Bad and The Queen, produced by Danger Mouse, is due out in 2007. For a video preview, mailing list and news head to thegoodthebadandthequeen.com .

8.15.06 BLANCMANGE IS BACK TOGETHER & RECORDING A NEW ALBUM

They are currently working on a new album. We like their new song 'Come On Now'. You can check it out by going to myspace.com/blancmange2006 .

8.14.06 THE SMALL PARTY HAS BEEN CRASHED
Rock / Acoustic / Alternative
Partial official description: "From humble roots in Liverpool, the band (The Small Party) have soared above the underground scene and performed in such places as The Star and Garter, The Lomax and The Barfly, as well as turning down support slots with high profile American bands, due to fear of blowing them off the stage!
Bootleg copies of their live material have been around for a while, and this has prompted the band to release a studio album (recorded with Mark Wainwright in Alien Sound in Bickerstaff) 'Life of Confessions'."
We really like their songs 'Nowhere Found' and 'Never What It Seems'. So, check them out!

8.13.06 TOOL BLOG
Official blog: "US AND THEM - Anyone from Ponca City, Oklahoma, Monowi, Nebraska, Dillon, South Carolina, Shiloh, Illinois, Bibb City, Georgia, Zolfo Springs, Florida, and Fife, Alabama who is currently hanging out in Asia, don't forget that TOOL will be playing at the Olympic Main Stadium in SEOUL, KOREA on AUGUST 15 (obviously as part of the Illuminati's global agenda).
Honestly, though, I don't know what happened to St. Louis, Misery this time around - what with Steak & Shake, toasted ravioli on The Hill, the gentleman clubs in nearby Sauget (best pole-riders in the USA, and a strip club where a person can still consume alcohol (as opposed to $9.00 7ups) and tell if that blonde farmer's daughter has carpet or hardwood floors), black triangle sightings with reliable witnesses (hear that, Fife!!!), ancient Mayan artifacts in the Cahokia mounds, and gleaming Egyptian treasures in Burrows Cave (Southern IL.) where the locals can still be seen praying fervently to their Xian God in the Perkins' Pancake House. And then there's Atlanta with all that red clay from spilled Yankee blood... Okay, so you're not visiting Seoul, and are a little concerned that the band won't be coming to your neck of the woods on this leg of the US Summer/Fall tour. In the past, didn't they usually come back around after Europe, Australia*, etc. and play somewhere within hitch-hiking reach? I still have a chocolate gator in my fridge that says they did. Besides, don't you want to wait until that set list is mixed up? Anyway, I was just thinking about the rest of you while sitting in traffic, wondering if there was going to be a quake while stuck under the overpass or if I should hand some coins to the homeless Vietnam vet who, truth be know, probably never even smoked pot in 'Nam, and who makes $3,000.00 a week.
* While I'm on the subject, I know Aussies don't put ketchup on their meat-pies, which is why I said to WORRY about someone squeezing ketchup on them. It wouldn't make sense for me to tell you to worry about tomato sauce or red Ned, or whatever you want to call it, now would it? Geez, don't make me come down to the Crocodile Dundee level here! Still, I'm excited about visiting at some point - maybe drink some Fosters oil cans in all those great Outback Steak Houses you've down under (if we're not going throw shrimp on the barbie)."

8.12.06 ROCK KILLS KID FRONTMAN CONFRONTS HOTEL ROOM INTRUDER
This band plays Rock / Alternative / Electronica music and are currently known for their recent hit song 'Paralyzed'.
Official message: "Rock Kills Kid lead singer Jeff Tucker was the victim of a burglary in his Honolulu hotel room in the early morning hours of Sunday, August 6th.
Asleep in his room at Waikikis Doubletree Alana Hotel, Tucker was awakened at 5:30 a.m. to find an intruder standing over him and glaring. "At first I thought I was dreaming," Tucker says. "Second, I thought it was a hotel worker putting towels in the room. I looked at him and said hello and he bolted." Tucker soon realized the intruder had stolen his wallet, cell phone, credit card, and room key.
Police have arrested 20-year-old Brandon Riester, whom they say is a member of the U.S. Navy. The police allege that Riester climbed onto Tuckers fifth-floor balcony and entered and exited the singer's room through the sliding door. When Riester fled, he was chased down the street by Tucker and Rock Kills Kids' manager Rodney Afshari. Riester was confronted and held by Tucker and Afshari until police arrived.
The police arrived and Riester was apprehended by detective Schell and booked at the Waikiki police department under a citizen's arrest. Riester faces the possibility of years in prison if convicted.
Rock Kills Kid, who were on the island to perform at the Band Camp Festival on August 5th, were interviewed by Honolulus Channel 2 News, which aired the segment that night on all of its NBC and CBS affiliates."

8.10.06 AN ANSWERING MACHINE YOU'LL LIKE
Indie / Pop
Part of official description: "In winter 2005/2006 it snowed a little, the radiator dripped and the heating broke down, but The Answering Machine sat in their bedroom in Manchester with little heaters and wrote songs anyway. Even though they had cold hands and had to wear mittens in between songs Martin, Pat and Gemma worked on songs influenced by their heroes The Strokes, The Radio Dept., The Brilliant Corners, and Shout Out Louds - to create their own style of imaginative, melodic, poetic and joyous pop music."
We really enjoyed listening to their following tracks: 'Oh Christina', 'Oklahoma', and 'Answer Me'. You can listen to these clips by www.myspace.com/theansweringmachine .
8.10.06 GIRLS IN HAWAII
Indie / Pop / Alternative
"We are not Girls. We are not from Hawaii either."
Wow! We're so glad thes guys alerted us of their music! The first Girls In Hawaii song we listened to was 'Found In The Ground' and we absolutely love it! Then we checked out 'Organeum' - which is an amazing tune as well. So far, their sound is reminding us a bit of a much mellower Smashing Pumpkins meets Grandaddy.
Then we checked out '900 AM' - which turned out to be a very catchy and absolutely gorgeous track. These 3 clips we've mentioned, are off of their 2005 album 'From Here To There' and can be listened to by

8.7.06 UPCOMING MODEST MOUSE BOOK
'Modest Mouse: A Pretty Good Read' (Thomas Dunne Books, November, 2006). The unauthorized biography of the platinum selling indie rock band Modest Mouse.
Official description: "Unruly, antagonistic, and often downright depressing, Modest Mouse seemed like one of the most unlikely candidates for mainstream stardom. Yet the band has pulled themselves through arrests and allegations to earn platinum record sales and primetime television guest spots, and become one of indie rock's most surprising success stories.
Journalist Alan Goldsher uncovers the strange, little-known details of Modest Mouse's unlikely rise, chronicling the band's difficult decade-long career, from the bottom of the Washington State indie rock scene to the current success of their records and ongoing international tours. He also reveals the troubled background and fractured history of Isaac Brock, the difficult and often abrasive frontman who has spent as much time avoiding the media as he has attepmted to control it.
Thoroughly researched, sharply funny, and filled with pictures and posters from every step of the band's career, this unauthorized bio is perfect for new and old fans looking for the band's little-known history, as well as readers of rags-to-expensive-rags underground rock histories such as 'Our Band Could Be Your Life.' Available November 28, 2006."

8.5.06 UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF GIANTS
Alternative / R&B / Indie
Why do we like these guys? Hmmm. In the case of their song 'In The Clouds', imagine Mindless Self Indulgence being a band as babies. Ok. Forget I said that.
Overall, Under The Influence Of Giants sounds a bit Bee Gees meets Maroon 5. They're funky, they're fun and you'll like them but won't want to admit it. Make sure to also check out their song 'Mama's Room'. Watch for a new release later this year. However, you can listen to it now by visiting

8.3.06 TORI AMOS NEWS
Official message: "Out this fall, 'A Piano: The Collection' Reveals Amos' Classics, Rarities, B-Sides, and Unreleased Tracks for a Five-Disc, Career-Spanning Boxed Set.
Tori Amos' classics, rarities, remixes, and previously unreleased music finally come together for 'A PIANO: THE COLLECTION'. Presented in deluxe packaging that resembles Tori's beloved Boesendorfer piano keyboard, this five-disc boxed set will be available September 26 at regular retail outlets.
Produced by Amos, the career-spanning collection highlights selections from her studio albums as well as B-sides and numerous unreleased songs, combining well-known studio versions with rare alternate mixes, including several songs Amos recently remixed for this project. Tracks included will also feature material from the Sony years with music from 'Scarlet’s Walk' as well as 'The Beekeeper'. 'A PIANO: THE COLLECTION' also offers a revealing and extensive track-by-track commentary penned by Amos, who discusses the inspiration behind the songs and albums and explains why they were chosen for this boxed set.
For what could be the most intriguing addition to the collection, Amos invites listeners into her artistic process with a medley of demos for the songs 'Fire-Eater's Wife/Beauty Queen,' 'Playboy Mommy' and 'A Sorta Fairytale.' Amos explains in the liner notes: "I'm usually pretty reticent to expose the musical development process . . . The demo medley was a choice I made so that other songwriters can feel an affinity with the idea that songwriters have to push themselves and not just accept the first incarnation that you are presented with. Each of these three songs are presented here in their completed form somewhere within the box set so you can see conception to development."
For further information about Tori Amos and a full tracklisting for the box set, visit www.everythingtori.com or www.toriamos.com ."
8.3.06 WATERBOYS WORK ON NEW ALBUM

Vancouver band Great Aunt Ida.
We have no information on the song selection, except that 'The Crash Of Angel Wings' and several other new songs are included. The album, as yet untitled, is projected for a February/March 2007 release, in advance of the band's 2007 tour."
By the way, Babble & Beat will be interviewing The Waterboys this spring! We can't wait!

8.1.06 MESSAGE FROM THE ORGAN ON ROCK EN SEINE 2006
Official message: "We would like to offer our sincerest apologies to those who were hoping to see us and purchased tickets for Rock En Seine 2006. We were always booked to play Reading that day but had hoped that with some set time shuffling we would be able to perform at both festivals. This being said, we were unable to make it work as both festivals wanted us to play at the exact same time. Somebody made a mistake when they began advertising that we would be playing Rock En Seine. We are horrified that this has happened, and hope you accept our apology." Katie (The Organ)
